As most moviegoers already know, these days comic book movies are the biggest thing in the cinema world. After all, Avengers: Endgame is the highest-grossing film of all-time, and anytime a new MCU movie gets released to the public, people show up in droves to see it.

Just over a couple of decades ago, there was a very different movie that was ruling the roost at the box office. Released in 1997, to say that Titanic was a sensation when it came out is an understatement. Simply stating that Titanic was the highest-grossing film of all-time until Avatar took its crown isn’t enough to properly explain how popular the film was. After all, the real story behind the film’s success is that millions of people loved Titanic so much that they paid to see it in theaters multiple times. In fact, fans loved Titanic so much that they wanted to know everything they could about what went on behind-the-scenes.

Throughout Hollywood history, there are many examples of actors that grew to dislike the most famous projects they starred in. When it comes to Kate Winslet and Titanic, however, she still seems to like the movie but has one major regret about her role in the film.

A Living Legend

In Hollywood, there is little doubt that Meryl Streep is considered to be the gold standard when it comes to acting. Of course, someone eventually will have to inherit Streep’s throne and there are several contenders but it seems like Kate Winslet is positioned perfectly to get that job.

An immensely talented actor, Kate Winslet won an Oscar for her work in The Reader. While that is an impressive feat, it is even more amazing that she has been nominated for another 6 Academy Awards due to her work in movies like Steve Jobs and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. On top of all the love that Winslet has received from the academy, she has won many trophies including at the Golden Globes, the Grammys, and the BAFTAs among others.

Box Office Gold

Given the fact that filmmaking is an artistic medium, some people may think that the main thing an actor should be judged by is their performances. Of course, as anyone that follows the film industry already knows, actors don’t remain stars for long unless they headline several movies that make a lot of money.

Fortunately for Kate Winslet, she has a long track record of appearing in movies that inspired the masses to fork over their money to see them. For example, Winslet has a film franchise under her belt as she had a major role in the Divergent series of films. On top of that, she also starred in hit films like Contagion, Flushed Away, and The Holiday.

Of course, the most financially successful film of Kate Winslet’s career is Titanic. Some people went to see that film due to its amazing special effects and the sequences in which the behemoth boat sank. On the other hand, Winslet played a huge role in Titanic’s success as the love story at the center of the film hugely appealed to the masses. Due to all of that success, Kate Winslet has spent decades in the spotlight and taken part in loads of photoshoots.

Not Her Own Biggest Fan

More than 20 years after Titanic came out, it seems very clear that Kate Winslet has mixed feelings about the film. Of course, that is very understandable as Titanic launched her career to a whole new level but it obviously must have been difficult to spend so much time drenched on set.

On the bright side, Kate Winslet must have enjoyed working with director James Cameron since she signed on to star in Cameron’s upcoming Avatar 2. When it comes to her main Titanic co-star, Leonardo DiCaprio, Winslet has made it clear that the pair are good friends in real life. For example, when Winslet won a Golden Globe for her work in Revolutionary Road, she gushed about DiCaprio onstage. “Leo, I'm so happy I can stand here and tell you how much I love you and how much I've loved you for 13 years. I love you with all my heart, I really do.”

Unfortunately, when Kate Winslet actually watches Titanic, she dislikes her performance in the film as she revealed during an interview with The Telegraph. "Every single scene, I'm like 'Really, really? You did it like that?' Oh my God...Even my American accent, I can't listen to it. It's awful," "Hopefully it's so much better now. It sounds terribly self-indulgent, but actors do tend to be very self-critical. I have a hard time watching any of my performances, but watching Titanic I was just like, 'Oh God, I want to do that again.'"
