The character of Joe Goldberg is not someone that anyone would want to be caught alone in a room with. He is daunting, scary, and dangerous. He comes across as being an affectionate, gentle romantic but in the reality of Netflix’s YOU, he is actually the opposite.

Stalking girls and doing everything he can to convince them to fall in love with him or just a couple of the things that he does that are super creepy. He is also willing to end the lives of anyone who gets in the way of his relationships! The actors in the show have had a lot to say about Joe Goldberg.

10 Penn Badgley

During an interview with Today, Penn Badgley said, "I don't see [Joe] as a portrayal of a real person, I see him as a representation of the part of us that identifies with him. The part of us that is a troll; that part of us that is victim-blaming; the part of us that is privileged and blind. We're meant to identify with him." Some of Joe's negative qualities are easily relatable but most of them are unreasonably too far over the edge of normalcy.

9 Shay Mitchell

Shay Mitchell understands why fans of YOU might romanticize the character of Joe Goldberg. She told Refinery29, "You can romanticize elements of his character, but if you romanticize his entire outlook on life, then that might be an issue." One too many people out there think of Joe Goldberg as if he is a knight in shining armor when he is really actually quite frightening.

8 Elizabeth Lail

In an interview with Entertainment TV, Elizabeth Lail said, "When I was reading the book – you’re definitely rooting for Joe. But as soon as I started playing Beck, I was Team Beck all the way. I wanted some girl power to come through and save the day, but alas." She changed her perspective from being on Joe's side to being on Beck's side. It is easy to be on Beck's side and to hate the fact that Joe murdered Beck in season 1.

7 Victoria Pedretti

According to Elle, Victoria Pedretti said, "[Love] is very similar to the way in which we see Joe: This person who seems to have a bleeding heart, who cares so deeply about others, but has a warped sense of how to care, and what is love—which is ironic that that is her name." Joe and Love Quinn share their obsessiveness for love in common... both of their perceptions of beyond warped.

6 Ambyr Childers

Ambyr Childers has tried to understand why fans of the show give joe Goldberg so many breaks. She said, “I think people are fascinated with serial killers and the whole mindset of people like Joe, and social media obviously is a big driving force of this younger generation."

She continued, "It’s also based on a really fantastic book — it’s a really solid show that a lot of different generations can tap into.” It is true that fans of the show are fascinated with figuring out how and why Joe's mind works in the way that it does.

5 Jenny Ortega

Former Disney Channel starlet Jenny Ortega plays the role of Ellie on YOU. She said, "Ellie is out there knowing that Joe's a murderer and could do something about it if she really needed to." She called Joe Golderbg out for what he is-- a murderer. There is no reason to sugarcoat things about a scary character like him.

4 Penn Badgley

Why do so many people love Joe Goldberg and forgive him so easily for his crimes? Penn Badgley did his best to try and answer that question. In an interview with IndieWire, Penn Badgley said, "I think everybody really got in the end that the point is we’re meant to reflect on why we like him so much and why we’re so willing to forgive him. And it seems like, I don’t know…"  We don't either.

3 Elizabeth Lail

In an interview with Entertainment TV, Elizabeth Lail described Joe Goldberg saying, "I think he’s severely twisted and I think he's the ultimate male toxic character." She couldn't have said it better.

She added, "It’s that kind of masculine toxicity that manifests into someone who thinks that they’re so right and so good and knows exactly what’s best for that female in his life." She is so right about Joe being twisted. His way of viewing the world is just off.

2 Victoria Pedretti

Victoria Pedretti described the way Joe Golderbg thinks about love and romance to Elle Magazine. She said, "Joe's idea of love has been warped by a great deal of conditioning and trauma throughout his life. Certainly, a lot of duality, when it comes to this great passion for love and life." Joe is indeed greatly passionate but he uses his strong passions in all the wrong ways.

1 Ambyr Childers

According to the NY Post, Ambyr Childers doesn't think Joe Golderbg's actions are acceptable whatsoever. She said, “There are some pretty sick f–-ing people out there! It’s just mind-blowing. I think it’s important for people to know that Joe’s actions and behavior are not okay. It’s really fascinating to see how this all has transpired into some women just being so in love with this idea of who Joe is." The love fans have for Joe is totally mindblowing.
