Few performers get the chance to land a star-turning role on the big screen, and the ones that do had better make the most of their opportunity. Back in the 80s, Val Kilmer turned into a household name thanks to his time in Top Gun, and from there, he put together a stellar run that culminated with him playing Batman.

After one Batman flick, Kilmer left Gotham in favor of other projects. He has been busy ever since, and he has even dealt with some health issues. He continues to perform and has an exciting appearance coming up.

Let’s see what Kilmer has been up to since he played Batman.

He’s Done Successful Films Like ‘The Prince Of Egypt’

Building up to his starring role in Batman Forever, Val Kilmer was fortunate enough to land roles in a string of hit films that turned him into a household name. While his time as Batman did not go as originally planned, this did not stop Kilmer from landing plenty of notable film roles as his career went on. One of the biggest projects that he took part in after exiting the role of Batman was The Prince of Egypt.

Sandwiched between Batman Forever and The Prince of Egypt were a number of films that found a mixed degree of success at the box office. Some people may remember The Saint or The Island of Dr. Moreau, but we are willing to bet that far more people remember The Prince of Egypt for being one of the most underrated animated films ever released. Kilmer was brilliant as Moses in the film.

In the years to follow, Kilmer would appear in projects like Red Planet, Wonderland, and the critically-acclaimed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. That latter film saw him paired up with Robert Downey Jr. several years before Downey turned into a box office powerhouse with 2008’s Iron Man.

Since then, Kilmer has consistently worked with appearances in Déjà Vu, as well as some additional voice acting work. He has even been busy on the small screen, though not nearly as much as his time in film.

It’s not that uncommon to see a performer focus on one aspect of the industry and lightly take part in another, and this is the case for Val Kilmer, who has done the majority of his work on the big screen. Despite this, he has made some notable appearances in hit shows since his time playing Batman came to an end.

During the 2000s, Kilmer would make an appearance on the series Entourage, as well as the series Numb3rs before landing the voice role of KITT on Knight Rider. The series was a reboot of the 80s classic, though it was not able to find the same type of success that the original did all those years. Nevertheless, it was still a cool nod to the 80s to have a former 80s star like Kilmer voice the iconic KITT.

After his time on Knight Rider, Kilmer would also make appearances in Life’s Too Short, Ghost Ghirls, The Spoils of Babylon, and Psych. Again, not the most extensive body of work for television that we have ever seen, but it is still refreshing to see a star like Kilmer do a little bit of everything.

When looking back at his most iconic roles, few come close to matching what he achieved while playing Iceman in Top Gun. That role really helped put him on the map back in the 1980s, and fans of the original are going to be excited to learn that Val Kilmer will be reprising the role of Iceman in the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick.

In his book, Kilmer would say, “As the Temptations sang in the heydey of Motown soul, 'Ain't too proud to beg.' The producers went for it. Cruise went for it. Cruise couldn't have been cooler. ... Tom and I took up where we left off. The reunion felt great.”

There is a lot of anticipation for this film finally hitting theaters, and while it has some lofty expectations to live up to, it has an incredibly good chance of turning into a mega hit on the big screen. After all, it’s starring Tom Cruise, who is one of the biggest stars of all time, and it even boasts fresher talent like Miles Teller. Regardless of how it performs, it’ll be great seeing Kilmer with Cruise once more.
