There are many things fans should know about Jake Gyllenhaal, and besides the fact that he's a super talented actor, he does stay out of the spotlight more than his peers.

Besides his public romance and break-up with Taylor Swift, Gyllenhaal doesn't wind up in them news very often, and as it turns out, it seems like this is the way that he likes it. He's not one to update his fans on his life via social media, but he does have a fun Instagram account, which has 6.4 million followers, where he shares the projects that he has loved working on.

Let's take a look at the private life of this beloved actor.

An Old-Fashioned Guy

Movie fans were first introduced to Jake Gyllenhaal in the cult hit Donnie Darkie and it turns out that the role first went to Jason Schwartzman.

While people love watching him in his many movies, it's rare to find an interview with Jake Gyllenhaal when he spills a lot.

That's because Gyllenhaal has said that he's a private person.

In an interview with The Guaridan, he said, “There are some things I keep to myself, that are my business."

He said a bit more on the topic and explained that he's old-fashioned and likes separating his personal and professional lives. He explained, "I’m not necessarily guarded, but I consider intimacy to be very important and I don’t think everybody needs to know about my family or my personal details. I’m old school in that way.”

Gyllenhaal said he would be happy to talk about Life, the movie that he was promoting at the time. He also said, "I would love to not talk about my personal life.”

His Dating Life

It's definitely up to a singer or actor what they wish to disclose in interviews. In Jake Gyllenhaal's case, he dated a very famous person in 2010: Taylor Swift. Fans think that Swift wrote her song "All Too Well" about the relationship, and it does come up in interviews.

Gyllenhaal has also dated other celebrities. Gyllenhaal and Kirsten Dunst began dating in 2002 and according to E Online, the couple was photographed a lot. The actor told People, "Kirsten and I know what's real and what isn't. We know what happens when you are both actors." The relationship was over in 2004.

Gyllenhaal has been said to have dated several women between 2011 and now, but since he doesn't like to talk about his romantic life or confirm the relationships, no one can say for sure.

According to E Online, by 2007, he was in a relationship with Reese Witherspoon, which lasted until 2009. It sounds like Gyllenhaal is a homebody: Witherspoon said, "Jake is a great cook. He does a lot. We spend the weekends outside L.A, in Ojai, where I have a farmhouse. We have chickens and we grow cucumbers and tomatoes. I love it."
