Turning down any role to appear in the MCU sounds like career suicide. Never mind, getting the chance to play 'Captain America'. There are few actors in this world that can turn down such an honor and still manage to enjoy major success, John Krasinski is one of them. Although it would've been great to see him in such a film, John would've missed out on other roles. This is the exact reason as to why looking back he has few regrets passing on the MCU project.
Not only would John star in a film, but he would also put his directing hat on. In the first weekend alone, the film he chose surged to $50 million at the box office. Looking back, he made the right call.
There Would Have Been No 'A Quiet Place'
Despite turning down a career-changing role as 'Captain America', Krasinski was okay with the decision. As he stated with Indie Wire, had he done the film, that would've meant no to other films, such as 'A Quiet Place', "I think ‘A Quiet Place’ definitely wouldn’t exist. There are benefits, and Chris Evans seems to be having a wonderful time,” Krasinski continued. “I love Chris, I’ve been a friend of his for a while. Those movies are so much fun and I love watching them, I tell him I’m first in line to see his new movies. It’s that zen thing of let life take you where it may and I never would have been here if I had gotten ‘Captain America.'”
According to Deadline, the film wound up with $50 million at the box office in just a weekend alone. Even John was blown away, not expecting these numbers, "Dude, it’s insane. It’s completely insane. It’s one of those elemental things you feel like you did when you were in high school, where you thought you had something cool but you weren’t sure if other people would think it was cool, and then it just happens. Emily and I, honestly, wake up every morning and stare at each other for a good 15 minutes and say, “Is this real?’” We’re so blown away."
Making the experience that much greater, John wore his director cap for the film, a big risk which he truly doesn't regret, "When Emily recommended I direct it, it took me a while to decide to do it for that exact reason. I have the deepest respect for the genre and the deepest respect for horror fans. I know the lengths and the depths that horror fans go to, and I didn’t want to let anyone down, so I really had to think about, what was it that I could do? What could I bring that would be the best for the movie? But I think it was because this one just started coming out of me. The ideas flowed, from the sand paths, to the lights, to the walk through the forest, to the pharmacy. They all came within an hour. It felt like that had to be a good sign."
We can all agree, John didn't need the MCU! He turned out just fine.
