Why Megan Boone Left 'The Blacklist'

Well, with The Blacklist season eight soon premiering, there is talk regarding Megan Boone departing from the series, which has turned out to be true!

The actress, who portrayed FBI profiler, Liz Keen in the hit series, has been playing the role for nearly a decade! This was certainly Megan's breakout role following her time on Law & Order: LA, and it is certainly not an easy one to walk away from, especially for fans of the show.

Viewers were able to witness Liz's evolution, along with Megan's as an actress, of course! The show went on to be an instant hit, and despite losing ratings as it moved around the NBC time slot, the series remained a huge contender, one that still scored up to 4 million views per episode!

Now, with the shows off-network deal with Netflix, it is only expected to reach an even bigger global viewership.

While fans aren't entirely sure what the storyline has prepared for Megan, considering she will need to be written off somehow, viewers will be able to watch the entire event transpire on-screen when the tale is finally covered on June 23, 2021.

Fans of The Blacklist are now wondering what sparked Boone's decision to walk away. As it turns out, Boone's departure was actually planned prior to the season nine renewal news.

The actress, who has appeared on hit shows including Robot Chicken, and The Underground Railroad, did not give a specific reason behind her leaving, however, she did comment that her absence from the season was due to "personal reasons," says Decider.

Luckily the decision was completely mutual, meaning there was no bad blood between Megan Boone and any of the producers of the show, and of course, the cast.

With her tumultuous on-screen relationship with Spader coming to a head, fans are now looking back at the many moments the OG cast had together, which Megan also shared on her Instagram page.

With Megan leaving, that leaves James Spader, Harry Lennix, and Diego Klattenhoff as the only original cast members to remain on the show. Although fans have gotten to know and love Elizabeth Keen, the show will most certainly go on.

Not only did the series catapult Megan to great heights, but fans are excited to see what the actress has in store. While she hasn't mentioned any upcoming projects in the works, it's clear the TV crime genre is right up her alley!
