While Daniel Craig’s final appearance as James Bond in the No Time to Die franchise is complete and awaiting release, the demand about who is set to replace him is the burning question in the internet world.

Names like Idris Elba, Richard Madden, and Tom Hardy have all previously been thrown around, but for fans of the Scottish romantic drama Outlander, Sam Heughan is the best fit for the next 007. Here are some reasons why many want him to get the role.

Sam Heughan Is The Fan-Favorite To Be The Next James Bond

Since it became clear that Daniel Craig has no intention of returning as the famous M16 agent after the latest film in the Bond series, everyone - from bookies to fans and from filmmakers to the media, has been devoted to doing their part in bringing the perfect actor as the next James Bond.

There have been so many speculations about the next 007, and there is an extensive list of actors who vied to win the spot. But, at the top of it has always been Sam Heughan. In a poll conducted by Radio Times asking readers to vote between 20 contenders for the James Bond role, the Scottish hunk landed the first spot.

Sam topped the list, beating Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill, and others for that number one spot. With the result, it is safe to say that people really want to see him as James Bond. Perhaps, it would be fitting for him to take the role as he is a Scottish actor, just like Sean Connery who was the first actor to portray fictional British secret agent James Bond on film.

Sam Heughan Fits To Follow Sean Connery’s Footsteps

Radio Time’s Editorial director Tim Glanfirled said at the time, “Sam is clearly very popular with fans and this victory solidifies his position as one the public favorites for this most coveted of film roles. With a host of incredible talent in the frame to take over from Daniel Craig, Sam certainly has some stiff competition.”

One of his fans wrote on Twitter, “I have no doubt in my mind that Sam Heughan would be the perfect James Bond. There are a few great actors on the list but Sam has all the qualities and he’s Scottish, we need another Scottish 007.” Another commented, “Well I don’t think we really need a poll for this. It’s time to go back to James Bond roots and bring a true Scottish Gentlemen back for the job. Especially after the loss of Sean. You’re the right man for the job!!”

In an interview, Sam revealed, “Obviously it’s a dream for every actor. I auditioned for it back when they were doing Bond 21 – when Daniel Craig was cast in Casino Royale and I think a lot of actors were seen in the UK.” He added, “And a Scottish Bond, who doesn’t want to see another Scottish Bond?”

Sam Heughan’s Jame Fraser Fits For The James Bond Role

Sam, who plays the role of Jamie Fraser in the popular historical and romantic time-traveling series, can be seen in Outlander as a moody Scottish laird during the Jacobite Rebellion. In terms of what it says about Heughan’s chances of getting the Bond spot, his character in the TV series definitely fits to be the next 007: he’s risk-taking, seductive, noble, but also prone to violence.

Sam Heughan Is Now Ready To Take The James Bond Role

Speaking on Alex Zane’s podcast Just The Facts, Sam was asked how he feels about the ongoing speculation and whether he still wants to be the next James Bond. He responded, “It’s a long list, right? It’s one of those things, you don’t want to talk about it because there isn’t anything to talk about. It’s all media and it’s all just..there’s no weight to it at all, there’s no truth to it. But having said that, you can’t help but then think, ‘God, it would be amazing.’”

The actor has previously revealed that he auditioned for Bond prior to Craig landing the spot when producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson considered a list of actors to be Pierce Brosnan’s replacement. In the interview with Zane, he admits that he may not have been ready for such a big opportunity so early in his career, but “definitely” feels prepared for the role after several years as a leading man in the TV series, Outlander.

He added, “I have been up for Bond, I went up when they did Bond 21 (2006’s Casino Royale). It was an amazing experience and I was completely out of my depth. But I think now I feel the right age for it, I feel capable enough to do it, I’d love the opportunity to throw my hat in that ring. Definitely.”

But as far as Sam’s potential hiring is concerned, he is certainly built the confidence over the years, and the resume, to make himself a tough contender for the next James Bond in the months to come. As one of his fans noted, “That lead is fully deserved and let’s face it, #JamesBond needs to be played by someone with stupendous ability to act, scintillating charisma, stunning good looks and that ‘je ne sais quoi’ which @SamHeughan has in spades…”
