Following the final episode that premiered in 2013 on NBC, The Office has grown in popularity by its presence on Netflix. According to Nielsen's research, the show is ranked as the most-watched show on Netflix with 52 million minutes streamed, topping Friends by more than 20 million.

With cast reunions and reboots of old classic shows like Will and Grace, Charmed and now Friends coming back to our TV screens, it would make sense for the popular TV comedy to do the same. Former cast members have expressed in television appearances and interviews that they would be on board for a reboot. Fans would definitely love to see the whole cast back together.

On Ellen, former cast member John Krasinski, who played Jim Halpert on the show said he would “love” to do it. “Oh my God, are you kidding? I’d love to get that gang back together,” said the Jack Ryan star.

While attending a Television Critics Association press tour, Jenna Fisher, who played Pam Beesly, expressed her love for the character. Fisher said, “I think the idea of an ‘Office’ revival is a great idea, I would be honored to come back in any way I’m able to.” She later added, “I loved playing the character and as long as Greg Daniels is the person in charge and the visionary behind it, then I’m absolutely in.”

In an interview with Esquire back in 2018, Steve Carell said that he’s not sure how the Michael Scott character would “fly” in the present day.

“There’s been a resurgence in interest in the show, and talk about bringing it back,” he told Esquire. “But apart from the fact that I just don’t think that’s a good idea, it might be impossible to do that show today and have people accept it the way it was accepted 10 years ago.”

The Morning Show actor said that the social climate we’re currently in with the age of social media would heavily criticize the inappropriate behavior that Michael Scott displayed in the workplace. Compared to when ‘The Office’ first aired, he described the social climate as “different.”

“I just don’t know how that would fly now. There’s a very high awareness of offensive things today — which is good, for sure. But at the same time, when you take a character like that too literally, it doesn’t really work.”

According to an article published by Collider, Carell was asked about the possibility of a reunion. In a press conference for Welcome to Marwen, Carell said that he won’t be a part of it if it happens.

“I don’t think you can recapture that same magic. I really think it comes down to that. If it was magic. I don’t want to overstate it. It was just a TV show,” he said. “I just wouldn’t want to make the mistake of making a less good version of it. The odds wouldn’t be in its favor, in terms of it recapturing exactly what it was, the first time.”

Carell does have a point. The final episode of the show was like closing the final chapter of a book and trying to pick up where the show left off would be difficult. For Michael Scott, his story is done. He was able to find love and start a family, which is something he wanted since the series started.
