Rappers are no strangers to starting feuds with other artists through their controversial lyrics, and The Notorious BIG was no different, who infamously made some not-so-nice comments about the ‘90s R&B girl group, Xscape.

The band — which consists of Kandi Burruss, Tamika Scott, LaTocha Scott, and Tiny Harris — had landed themselves a string of hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including their single, “Just Kickin’ It,” but were soon dragged into the mix of a 1994 song, titled “Just Playing (Dreams),” where Biggie rapped about finding the girls “ugly.”

On the night of his death, however, Tiny has since revealed that the deceased father of two confronted her about the remark he had made about them — and it just so happened that his apology to Xscape came just hours before he was murdered in a drive-by shooting.

What Did Notorious BIG Say About Xscape?

Released as a promotional single in 1994, Biggie made a bold move to take aim at Xscape on the song “Dreams,” where he raps: “I’ll put Chanté Moore pu**y in stitches / I’ll f**k RuPaul before I f**k them ugly-a** Xscape bi**hes.”

Xscape were known for wearing little to no makeup and carrying quite a tomboy demeanor about them, which is what fans believed made Biggie make a joke about their character, insisting he would never want to hook up with any of the girls, but the comment was shocking and rude, to say the least.

In 2013, Kandi first spoke about the night of Biggie’s murder, since she had seen the rapper just hours before he was pronounced dead, having attended the same VIBE Magazine party earlier in the evening.

But the Real Housewives of Atlanta star made it known that she wasn’t interested in hearing what Biggie had to say, regardless of whether he genuinely wanted to apologize or not — Kandi did not appreciate the remark, to begin with, so she blew him off.

“Tiny came up to me and said, ‘Biggie wanna apologize to us – he’s sorry,’” Burruss said in an interview with VLAD TV. “I was like, ‘Man, I ain’t trying to talk to him, I don’t give a damn.’ In my mind, I felt like he dissed us – he had dogged us out. So, I didn’t care to hear his apology.”

Later that night, Biggie was shot and killed, and upon hearing about his death, Kandi shared: “I felt like crap, I felt horrible.

I guess that is a definite moment where you realize you tend to hold on to things that are really not that serious and then something happens to the person and you really aren’t able to talk [to them].”

In November 2020, Tiny had also sat down for an interview with VLAD TV, where she touched on the topic since she was the one Biggie had initially approached at the star-studded event.

“I just remember us not wanting to deal with him. Not wanting to talk to him. And then, at the Vibe party, he was there and someone came to us and said Biggie wanted to speak to us,” the “Softest Place On Earth” vocalist said.

“Kandi was like, ‘I’m not going over there. I don’t wanna talk to him.’ So I was just like, I’ll go over there. So I went. He basically apologized for saying that, that he thought we were beautiful.

She also claimed that their friend and longtime producer, Jermaine Dupri, had tried to get the band in a room with Biggie for years prior to their un-in with him at the VIBE party, but the timing just never seemed to align.

In late 2017, ‘90s group announced their comeback tour, The Great Xscape Reunion Tour, almost two decades since the release of their third and final studio album, titled Traces of My Lipstick.

The four-piece have also been working on new music, but there’s been no official word on the chances of fans getting a fourth album anytime soon — at least not by the look of things.

Still, Xscape remains one o of the biggest girl groups in the U.S., selling over 20 million records and winning a string of prestigious awards for their long list of R&B hits.

Ans aside from the money she makes on reality TV, Tiny still has plenty of her music career to thank for her reported $3 million net worth, which she also amassed through her songwriting credits on other hit singles, such as TLC’s 1999 track, “No Scrubs.”

In comparison to Kandi, however, Tiny doesn’t come close. The Real Housewives star is said to be worth an enormous $30 million thanks to her many lucrative endorsement deals and high-earning salary on the Andy Cohen-produced show.
