Surviving in the fast-paced Hollywood industry is no easy task. It can be a murky, challenging, and dynamic workplace, and sometimes, a toxic one too. For every star that made it to the big screen, dozens of others have failed to live up to the expectation.

There comes a time when fans don't really get to see their favorite actors on the big screen anymore. In many cases, the reason falls into the hands of directors. No matter the reason, though, it does not mean they're any less talented than they were when they made it in movies. From a sex symbol to one of the best rappers to have ever graced the mic, here's why Hollywood stopped casting these actors in big roles.

10 Megan Fox

You might've thought Megan Fox's Hollywood career would take off immensely after co-starring with Shia LaBeouf in the Transformers movies. Unfortunately, that's not the case. Being constantly hailed as one of the most attractive faces in Hollywood can be a double-edged sword, as Fox is a long-lasting victim of typecasting.

Her former director, Michael Bay, accused her of being "too difficult to work with" while in reality, the actress was only guilty of revealing the harrowing and misogynistic treatment she endured during her time at the top in Hollywood.

9 Taylor Lautner

Taylor Lautner shot to stardom after starring in the vampire-themed romance Twilight saga, which is constantly hailed as one of the most iconic pieces of pop culture in the 2000s and 2010s.

Unfortunately, one of Hollywood's formerly highest-paid teen actors has struggled to secure any other big roles because he tends to be picky. Speaking to Good Morning America, the actor said that he's wanted to choose "things that are different," and he's also preferred life outside the Hollywood circles.

8 Leelee Sobieski

Emmy-nominated actress Liliane 'Leelee' Sobieski was once looked to as one of the busiest faces in Hollywood. Her career took off in the 1990s, after starring in the likes of Deep Impact, Here on Earth, The Glass House, and Joan of Arc.

In 2016, the actress announced that she's retired completely from Hollywood to focus on her family life and art projects. Her last movie project was Branded in 2012.

7 Seann William Scott

It's unfair to say Hollywood has stopped casting Seann William Scott, as he's transitioned into TV shows and portrayed Wesley Cole in Fox's Lethal Weapon. However, the actor has had his fair share of private problems over the years.

It's no common secret that the American Pie star is a recovering addict, and he voluntarily entered a rehab facility in March 2011. On top of that, just like Megan Fox, Scott is also a victim of typecasting.

6 Eminem

Despite having zero acting background, rapper Eminem's debut in the big-screen industry was a massive hit: 2002's battle rap movie 8 Mile that loosely captures his upbringing.

Unfortunately, the rapper hasn't wanted to add more titles to his acting resume since then. On the set of 8 Mile, Eminem overworked himself to the point where his addiction problems worsened. In 2010, Em was set for the main character in the boxing drama Southpaw, but he was busy gearing up for his Grammy-winning album Recovery.

5 Wesley Snipes

Once upon a time, Wesley Snipes was one of the most in-demand Hollywood stars thanks to his physique ability and charismatic performances. In addition to several run-ins with the law, Snipes often calls out Hollywood's racial inequality, as he spoke to The Chicago-Sun Times in 1991. The outspoken actor is still regarded as one of the most iconic faces that ever graced our screens, as he received his Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 1998.

4 Elisha Cuthbert

Hailed as one of the most attractive faces on TV by Maxim magazine in 2013, you could have imagined Elisha Cuthbert landing almost every Hollywood blockbuster movie. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for her.

The frontwoman of House of Wax has sort of vanished from the spotlight as many of her movies were flunked by critics. Fortunately, the actress became a regular on Netflix's The Ranch. Maybe this could lead to a big movie role in her future?

3 Edward Norton

In the early 2010s, actor Edward Norton was subject to a series of controversies. He starred in The Incredible Hulk, but during the movie's promo tour, the star decided to fly off to Africa and do humanitarian work rather than joining the team. Many were left wondering if there was any sort of clash or creative dispute between him and the directors. He hasn't starred in any blockbuster movies ever since.

2 Raven-Symoné

Actress Raven-Symoné is another name on Hollywood's long laundry list of 'seize-ist' victims. In addition to several backlash-stirring statements, including the one where she didn't call out Bill Cosby and when she refused to be called an "African-American," the actress has been struggling with getting her weight to fit into the Hollywood standard. As she told People, the actress has struggled with both being too big and too small for the industry's unrealistic standards. Despite not landing big acting roles, Raven did land a spot at The View's table as a co-host for a year.

1 Cameron Diaz

Forty-eight-year-old Cameron Diaz was the face of almost every high-grossing movie in the 1990s and the 2010s. However, the Golden Globe-nominated star's last big appearance was in 2014, and she's decided to retire since then.

"I got a peace in my soul because I finally was taking care of myself," the actress told Gwyneth Paltrow on her Goop podcast. "It's so intense to work at that level and be that public and put yourself out there."
