America started to ‘get woke’ last summer, when thousands of folks took to the streets in order to join the Black Lives Matter movement. Since then, we have seen the first Black woman sworn into the US vice-presidency; we also finally got to watch the first Black Bachelor.

However, while awareness about racism has increased substantially over the course of 2020, the fight for equality continues to be an uphill battle.

Recently, folks on Twitter went after Khloé Kardashian for making a totally inconsiderate and disrespectful move online. Her behavior was controversial, and many fans consider it to be racist. But what exactly did Khloé do, and how did fans call out her actions? Let’s take a look at what went down.

Khloé Shocks The Internet

On February 2, Khloé Kardashian took to Twitter to share an emoji string reaction to a random mood she was feeling in the middle of her day. While this kind of post is pretty typical for the Kardashian crew, there was one thing about Khloé’s emojis that left a bad taste in her followers’ mouths: she used the Black emoticons to represent herself.

This kind of digital Blackface was beyond offensive to many of Khloé’s followers, who were quick to point out that it’s not cool for a White girl to start using whichever race emoji she likes.

The move was perceived as particularly disrespectful, since it came just at the kickoff of Black History Month. Unsurprisingly, the stylish reality star faced a world of backlash for her choice of imagery at an important time. “This the skin tone you chose... During Black History Month,” wrote one of her followers.

Fans Speak Out Against Khloé

When fans realized what Klhoé had done, the Internet basically exploded. The media personality’s millions of followers were not ‘here’ for her dark-skinned emoji. And they wanted to make that clear. “Ma’am I don’t know if you know this,” tweeted one social media user, “but you’re white.”

“You’re a white woman,” another Twitter user reminded her. “Little too dark there ma’am,” someone else chimed in.

A couple of days have passed and we have yet to see any kind of apology or recognition of fault from Khloé. For now, it seems like she’s not planning on taking accountability for this one.
