There are plenty of memorable things about the movie 'Home Alone.' One of them is the child star who almost became a poster child for what not to do post-fame.

But the movie also featured a cameo appearance by Donald Trump, which wasn't all it was cracked up to be, and plenty of moments that fans would continue to relive (and re-enact) for decades.

One detail that may shock fans today is that 'Home Alone' almost didn't happen. Fortunately, the cast and crew pulled through, and fans are left with some amazing memories today.

Most of them, of course, took place in the McCallister house. But is the family's home actually a real house, and what happened to it after the movie wrapped?

The answer is that yep, it is a real house, and it still has a reputation today. In fact, Atlas Obscura literally calls the property the Home Alone house. It's a 1920s-era property that's more like a mansion than the humble home of Kevin and his family. To be fair, producers did take some liberties with portraying the home on film.

For example, the Winnetka, Illinois property features two spacious attic suites in real life. In the film, Kevin slept in an attic that was more creepy space than a spacious bedroom.

Other things are different now at the mansion than they were in 1990. For example, Curbed explains that the home now has an iron fence surrounding it, plus some ornate columns by the front door.

Everything from the staircase to the living room and dining room (and that attic) is still intact in the home. Of course, some of the scenes were shot off-site, at a nearby school where the crew set up the McCallister family's kitchen and second floor.

As Curbed confirms, the property has changed hands only once since 'Home Alone' was filmed there; in 2011, the house earned international fame when the existing owners put it on the market for $2.4 million. It only sold for $1.585, but fans can hazard a guess that the folks who bought it are also fans of the film that made it famous.

Fans may also be interested to know that old man Marley's house is really in the neighborhood, too; that property last sold for $3 million in 2003.

There's only so much fans can find out about the McCallister house today, though. Despite the address being publicly available, the people who now own the home clearly want to be left alone.

In fact, Google's Street View feature blurs out not only the house at 671 Lincoln Avenue but also its neighbors' homes and some signs that may give away details about the inhabitants of the street. Unfortunate for fans who were hoping to catch a glimpse of the home as it stands today.
