The countdown towards the arrival of Aquaman 2 continues, with the much anticipated DCEU film set for a December 2023 release. This schedule appeared to be in question at some point, following main star Amber Heard’s legal troubles with ex-husband, Johnny Depp.

The controversy ignited rumors that the actress’ role in the sequel of the 2018 film was either being significantly reduced, or scrapped altogether. A petition to have her completely removed from the project reached as many as four million signatures.

Heard came back fighting, however, as she referred to any reports that she was not going to appear in Aquaman 2 as “inaccurate, insensitive, and slightly insane.”

There were conflicting reports on where her co-star Jason Momoa stood on the whole matter, although one industry expert suggested that the Game of Thrones actor and Aquaman director James Wan actually fought to ensure that Heard was not cut from the sequel.

Any rumors to the contrary would not have been entirely baseless, too, considering the pair were said to have had some chemistry issues on set. Heard herself was on record once explaining how she lost it with Momoa behind the scenes.

What Happened Between Amber Heard And Jason Momoa On The Set Of Aquaman?

In between scenes on the set of Aquaman, Amber Heard reportedly liked to keep herself busy by reading books. The actress is a self-confessed bookworm, having once said in an interview that “knowledge is my religion.” She is also known for sharing social media posts of specific books on her reading queue.

In a 2018 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Heard explained how Jason Momoa would target his renown sense of humor and practical joking on her reading habits. She also revealed how the actor’s presence is always felt on set, and insisted that he would always find an annoying way to catch her attention.

“You always know where Jason is… He’d make the worst ninja ever.” Heard explained. “I got annoyed [with] him because on the set I read books and I’m quiet. He’s allergic to not making people laugh or be keeping people engaged around him all the time. So he started stealing my books so I’d be forced to pay attention to him.”

Amber Heard Still Praised Jason Momoa’s “Big” Personality

Despite acknowledging the fact that Jason Momoa’s antics really ticked her off on set, Amber Heard was quick to insist that there was no bad blood between them.

When asked what was an interesting thing about working with the Hawaii-born star that people would not expect, she said: “He’s exactly like you think Jason would be like, but even more so. His heart and his personality is as big as he is. He’s got this booming voice and his sense of humor isn’t satisfied unless he’s making people laugh.”

Heard revisited this story later in 2018, when she appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America. The actress explained how difficult it would be for her to get her hands on her books in between takes, and so the film’s wardrobe team made her a book bag.

Even then, Momoa found a way to ruin her reading experiences, by apparently stealing her books and ripping pages out of them.

“He adopted this method of ripping out the pages off my book so I would pay attention to him,” Heard recalled. “It would drive me crazy because I'd have 30 pages left and it would be gone.”

What Did The Cast Think Of Amber Heard’s Behavior On Set?

Amber Heard might not be the most liked individual in the public arena right now, but it would appear that those sentiments are not exactly shared within the cast circles of Aquaman. At least that would be the deduction from a quote by Dolph Lundgren, where he spoke glowingly of how Heard carried herself on set.

The Rocky star reprises the character King Nereus in Aquaman 2, a part that he also portrayed in the original film. He was quoted by The Independent in June, following a conversation that he had with Redline Steel CEO Colin Wayne.

“She was great. I worked with her on the first Aquaman, now the second one. We shot last fall in London,” Lundgren said of Heard. “She’s terrific, I had a great experience with her. She’s very kind, nice to the crew, nice to everybody, just down to earth.”

Lundgren also gushed over his colleague’s decision to bring toddler daughter Oonagh Paige with her to the set. “She had her newborn baby with her on set with the nanny which was kind of cute,” he said.
