Fans have been waiting forever to find out details about the Mad Max: Fury Road sequel... In recent months, we've learned that the follow-up to the highly successful Academy Award-winning blockbuster will actually be a prequel... And one that doesn't even have Mad Max in it at all... Nope... the movie will be all about Furiosa.
Charlize Theron played Furiosa in 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road. Unfortunately, she and her co-star Tom Hardy had numerous conflicts on the set. But that's not the reason why neither of them will return. The movie is a prequel and that requires a younger actor to adopt the Furiosa character... And that actor will be Anya Taylor Joy.
George Miller will be directing the up-and-coming star alongside Chris Hemsworth and Watchmen and Matrix 4 star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, according to Deadline.
There's no doubt that Anya Taylor Joy will be making some killer dough off this new role. But she has already made a net worth of $1.5 million, according to Top Planet Info and Taddlr.
So, who is this young, talented beauty and how did she make such a figure before the age of 25?
She Was Discovered Randomly In England
Anya Taylor Joy grew up in Miami as the youngest of six kids. Due to her father's position as an international banker, Anya and her family had to move around the world as she grew older. This landed her in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and then in London, England. She attended some prestigious schools in London and trained in ballet. But Anya didn't have any desire to enter into the entertainment business.
While on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Anya described how she was first discovered. Although, she recommended that nobody do what she did. Anaya claims that she was walking down the street in high-heels with her dog not far from the world-famous Harrods Department Store in London. She noticed someone was following her in a car so she picked up her dog and ran. The person in the car yelled out at her, "If you stop, you won't regret it." ... So Anya stopped.
This is the part she doesn't recommend to people.
However, she's thankful that she did stop as it was a scouter who hooked her up with her first modeling agent. Through her early modeling work at the age of 16, Anya also got hooked up with an acting agent.
This won her a role in Vampire Academy... which she was eventually cut from. However, this work allowed her to get bit parts on Endeavour and Atlantis.
But it was a horror movie that really broke her into the business.
Anya Can Thank Some Creepy Magic For Her Career
Thanks to rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival, a small independent horror film called The Witch broke Anya into the film industry in a big way. Clearly, Anya had faith in the wicked script as she turned down a lucrative gig on The Disney Channel in order to finish the film in which she starred. Critics and audiences not only loved the film but praised Anya's performance. It also led her to win several awards.
More importantly, it swung open the doors for her ever-growing career.
Following The Witch, Anya was cast in major roles in Morgan, Barry (a film about Former President Obama), Marrowbone, and in M. Night Shyamalan's Split.
Split was made for only $9 million, which means Anya was likely paid scale or a bit above it. However, it made $278.5 million at the international box office... In all likelihood, Anya had some decent points on the back end. The film was such a huge success that it spawned a sequel (Glass) which rounded off Shyamalan's supernatural trilogy that started with Unbreakable. Glass was also a major financial hit.
Following these movies, Anya was cast in the stellar independent movie Thourghbreds, got a six-episode arc on Peaky Blinders, and was one of the leading voices in Netflix's Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
Years Leading Up To Furiosa
