Jared Kushner and sometimes controversial Ivanka Trump are Washington D.C.'s power couple. Both were central to the Trump campaign and are now "senior" advisors to President Donald Trump. They are White House insiders. And, more to the point, they have a combined wealth of some $1.1 billion. Jared weighs in at around $800 million and Ivanka brings up the rear with a net worth of some $300 million. Meanwhile, daddy, a.k.a. the always controversial Donald Trump clocks in at around $2 billion.

What about Jared and Ivanka's wealth? Where on earth did it come from?  For the most part, it's a case of money begets money. Kushner comes from a real estate rich family. And Ivanka has traded on the Trump name to produce lucrative fashion and book deals.

Let's look at how Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump became a billionaire couple.

Jared Kushner - Net Worth $800 Million

Jared's grandparents came to this country as Holocaust survivors. They had nothing. By the time grandpa Joseph died in 1985, he owned some 4,000 apartments, which he willed to his family. That was the beginning of the property development Kushner Companies.

Jared began at Harvard University in 1998 (some say because his father had donated $2.5 million to the school), graduating in 2003. By the time he graduated, one story claims he had earned some $20 million flipping Massachusetts real estate. In 2006 that version of events claims he took $10 million of that money and purchased a failing newspaper called the New York Observer.  Another version of events put forward by businessinsider.com says the $10 million was a graduation present from his father. In any event, he turned the paper around and made it profitable.

By that time, he was effectively running the Kushner Companies, with billions and billions of dollars in real estate. Much of Jared Kushner's $800 million net worth comes from his stake in his family's business, the Kushner Companies. Of course, as he has a senior White House role, the running of his interest in the company has been passed to others.

Ivanka Trump- Net Worth $300 Million

Ivanka Trump in her modeling days. Even in high school, working for the likes of Versace and Tommy Hilfiger, it was clear fashion was going to be her thing. She got a degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School in 2004.  Before joining the Trump Organization she did a deal with Dynamic Diamond Corporation to design a line of jewelry named Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry.

Next, she tackled her own line of handbags and footwear that got snapped up by the likes of Macy's. At its height, that line was generating more than $75 million a year in revenue. Never a slacker, she also tackled a line of women's workwear. Think suits and the like. That little earner hit $100 million a year in revenue pretty quickly.

She was a smart operator doing the handbags, footwear, and workwear under deals that licensed her name to others for a cut of the profits. Much of this has, mainly because of her position in the White House gone by the wayside.
