Since first gaining fame back in 1962, Jackie Chan’s career has reached heights that many aspiring actors can only dream of. Some of his most notable films include the Rush Hour trilogy, which have grossed over $1.2 billion at the box office, while his other successful films include Supercop, Kung Fu Panda, and The Foreigner.

The latter alone, which was released back in 2017, made a whopping $150 million at the box office, proving that Chan could still go against some of the biggest Hollywood veterans to score strong sales with his movies. With that said, does it really come as a surprise to hear that the 67-year-old earned $40 million in 2020? Here’s the lowdown…

Jackie Chan’s Fortune In 2020

According to reports, Chan made $40 million in 2020, and a huge sum of that money stems from his successful movie career.

In 2020, Chan appeared in two movies; Vanguard and All U Need Is Love, which weren’t exactly big production flicks, but we’re sure that whatever fee Chan requests to star in a movie certainly wouldn’t come cheap.

On top of that, his IMDb page reveals he has a string of films dropping in the next few years including Snafu, Once Upon a Zodiac, Five Against a Bullet, and Shanghai Dawn starring Hollywood actor Owen Wilson.

Most of the films starring Chan are usually produced by the lead star himself, who owns multiple production companies including JCE Movies Limited, JC Group China, Jackie & Willie Productions, and Jackie & JJ Productions.

Celebrity Net Worth adds that Chan also earns a good amount of money from his music career, with his most recent album release being 2018’s I Am Me. To date, he has dropped a whopping 12 albums sang in Mandarin, Japanese, and Cantonese.

And if that wasn’t enough, Chan has another stream of income through the many movies theatres he owns across China — not to mention he’s one of the most endorsed celebrities in the country.

While Chan announced his retirement from action films in 2012, he later clarified saying that he would step back from performing stunts to take care of his body.

His next mainstream movie after the announcement was 2017’s The Foreigner, which was his first blockbuster flick since 2010’s Karate Kid.

Many people wondered why it took Chan so long to return to the big screen, to which he responded by explaining how he felt as if he’d been typecast after reaching a certain age.

The roles after Karate Kid were more or less all the same, leaving Chan very much uninspired and uninterested.

The father of two told Filmelier in a 2020 interview, “All these years after the 'Karate Kid', I received so many scripts, but the role is [always] a Hong Kong policeman. That's why it took me seven years to accept a role in another Hollywood film, with 'The Foreigner'.

“I want to make sure that the audience can see these different sides of Jackie Chan. I would like the public to consider me an actor who does action, not just an action star.”

It’s believed that from the Rush Hour films alone, Chan acquired an estimated $40 million. To date, his net worth stands at a cool $350 million.

Back in April 2011, the legendary icon shared that his entire fortune will be donated to charity when he passes away, leaving his offsprings Jaycee and Etta Ng with practically nothing to inherit.

Speaking of his son not receiving an inheritance back in 2011, Chan was quoted by the Channel NewsAsia saying, “If he is capable, he can make his own money. If he is not, then he will just be wasting my money.”

In August 2014, Jaycee was arrested by Beijing police due to drug possession, leaving his father stunned, yet he took responsibility, saying he could’ve done better in teaching his son the dangers of substance abuse.

According to reports, police had found more than 3 ounces of marijuana after searching Jaycee’s apartment, prompting Chan to make a statement, which read, "I hope that young people will see Jaycee as a cautionary tale and stay away from drugs. I failed to teach my son and I should also bear responsibility. Jaycee and I deeply bow in apology to society."

Some of Chan’s recent movies include Bleeding Steel, Namiya, The Knight of Shadows: Between Yin and Yang, Iron Mask, and a guest appearance in The Climbers. To say that this man isn’t busy would clearly be an understatement — but his net worth truly does speak for itself.

No one does it quite like Jackie Chan.

There's been rumors of a fourth Rush Hour installment, but no actual plans have been brought into fruition yet.
