Casper Smart first caught everyone’s attention after the backup dancer famously dated Jennifer Lopez around the time that the singer split from then-husband Marc Anthony. The couple would go on to have an on-again, off-again romance, which would last for five years.
The former couple eventually parted ways in 2016. And while the split appeared to be amicable, fans would also remember that Smart got caught in a shocking scandal while dating Lopez.
A Brief Timeline Of Their Relationship
Lopez and Smart reportedly met while working on the music video for Lopez’s Dance Again. Just a year later, they became close, although it seemed the romance was unexpected. “I was single, she was single. It started out as flirting, then became more than flirting,” Smart recalled while speaking on Univision’s Wake Up America. “Neither of us thought it would be more than a fun time and suddenly we were spending time together, we enjoyed each other’s company, there was chemistry.”
The relationship certainly raised eyebrows, considering there was an 18-year age gap between the two. It was an issue that Lopez herself acknowledged early on during their time together. “I ask him, ‘Why don’t you go find a young girlfriend and get out of here? What do you want with me?’ And you think, ‘How long is this gonna be?’” the singer told People. “You think, ‘Okay, in 10 years I’m going to be like this and you’re going to be like that’ and men at that age are I think all different things.”
Despite the huge age difference, however, the former couple seemed very happy. “I just got out of a big, heavy, devastating thing, and he’s helped me heal,” Lopez even revealed. “He’s been there for me.” “I was very young, I was 23 or 24, she was 18 years older, so she was about 42 years old with two kids,” Smart also acknowledged. “But in the moment, everything just clicked. We spent every day together for a year.”
During their time together, the pair also collaborated, sort of. “I just did a small little role in Shades of Blue,” Smart revealed while speaking with People during the premiere of The Perfect Match. “I’m in the finale. My scenes are not with her, though – [they’re] with Ray Liotta.” Meanwhile, Smart also shared that despite their high-profile romance, they enjoyed keeping things simple and healthy. “We both don’t drink, we don’t do any drugs, smoking, pills, or any of the craziness,” he explained. “We don’t really go out very much. We don’t get wrapped up in the Hollywood life that can chew you up and spit you out. I’ve seen it happen a million times.”
And when Lopez and Smart eventually split in 2016, it was just said to be the result of how their relationship evolved over time. “They have not been together for a few weeks,” a source told People later on. “It wasn’t anything dramatic and they were on good terms – it just came to a natural end. They will remain friends and they see each other, but they are not together. It was very amiable.” Smart also later revealed why he thinks their relationship ended. “I was very young and selfish,” he said. “I thought I was ready for a relationship with a woman with kids and everything.” And while the two remained in good terms, fans couldn’t help but look back to the time when Smart was embroiled in a scandal while dating Lopez.
He Was Accused Of Cheating On J.Lo Twice
Back in 2014, reports surfaced that Smart hooked up with transsexual model Sofia Vissa while dating Lopez. According to Vissa, they met after Smart messaged her on Instagram. “I’d do hashtags on Instagram… to get a lot of followers I’d put #TS or #Shemale or #transgendered on them,” she told Woman’s Day. “I remember I put those hashtags on one of my photos and when I went back to look at my phone I’d got a request from Casper.”
After that, Vissa said that Smart started asking for her photos. “He just kept asking for more photos of me,” she revealed while speaking with In Touch. “He wanted something explicit.” Vissa even showed a photo for their Instagram exchange. One message that allegedly came from Smart read, “U [sic] have to send something [sic] really good.”
Later on, transgender model Xristina Marie also came forward, alleging that she and Smart got together while Smart was with Lopez. The two reportedly met while Smart was in Florida. “I was in a club and Casper was smiling and being flirty,” she told The Sun. Soon after, Smart allegedly sent her a request on Instagram. Once they were connected, things reportedly heated up. “He started messaging me. We started talking and he met me in his car and we went for a little ride around Miami,” Marie said. “We started fooling around in the car and being touchy. We had a kiss and did a little more.”
According to reports, these cheating allegations ultimately led to a breakup between Smart and Lopez in the past. However, Smart never admitted to cheating on the singer. And when the allegations from Marie became public, the dancer even denied it, telling Us Weekly, “I am weighing my options on the appropriate action to take against Xristina Marie and/or The Sun.” Smart also denied ever hooking up with Vissa.
In recent years, Smart has been busy pursuing his own entertainment career. In 2020, it was also revealed that the dancer is dating fitness model Bre Tiesi.
