A lot of celebrities have striking stories about meeting their spouses on set. Some even fall in love on film, in front of fans and their existing partners... But other celebrity couples wind up together in other, more normal ways.
And though Jon Stewart would probably love to have a hilarious story about meeting his wife, Tracey, it's a decidedly normal story they'll be able to pass on to their kids.
Tracey's Roommate Set Jon Stewart Up
Jon Stewart was totally set up with his now-wife, but at first, he wasn't thrilled. But when he ran into someone on the set of a project (1997's 'Wishful Thinking') who suggested he give a cool gal a call, Stewart said sure.
The third party happened to be someone Jon didn't really know, but she worked on set with him. Jon took down Tracey's number, he said, on a dollar bill. But later, he spent the same bill and lost the number.
Fortunately, a paper cast list directed him to the third party's phone number, and he was able to get in touch that way. The girl who introduced him to his now-wife was none other than Tracey's roommate.
Jon Stewart Said Yes To A Blind Date
Yep, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry aren't the only celebs to meet on a blind date. Jon had never met Tracey before the two went out on a date. But by the time their somewhat awkward date was over, they were exclusive and went on to date for four years before getting married.
It was surprising, noted Jon in an interview, because he thought Tracey would probably hate him by the end of the night. He did a lot of talking, he explained, because he tends to talk a lot when he's nervous. On the other hand, his wife gets quieter, which meant she sat stonily while he yammered on.
But ultimately, each was charmed by the other. And it was excellent luck because not everyone in Hollywood can find someone authentic; celebs say it's really hard to date. Plus, with actors like Ben Affleck being rejected on dating apps, it seems like there's little hope for anyone looking for love.
Is Jon Stewart Still Married?
Jon and Tracey are still, apparently, happily married these days. They were married in 2000, changed both their names to match (Jon wasn't always a Stewart), and later had two kids through IVF.
These days, the pair operate a sanctuary farm, speak out against cruelty against animals -- among countless other causes -- and seem like a standard non-celebrity couple with a pretty functional marriage. Although, Jon's hilarity probably helps that!
