If you thought being an A-lister excused you from developing pimples in your 20’s and beyond, you were mistaken.

Even celebrities suffer from acne.

Katy Perry tells Prevention that she “used to have really, really bad skin,” but thanks to a few good skincare habits, the American Idol judge has finally banished her adult acne.

Here’s what she does to keep her skin clear and glowing.

2 Proactiv, Oil, And Diet

Proactiv, oil, and diet are the three main elements that make up Perry’s skincare routine.

“Someone recommended I try the Proactiv cleanser and I thought, ‘No way, no how will that fix anything.’ And I’ve been using it for 10 years and it’s been incredible,” the singer told Refinery29.

She also relies on oil to cleanse her face, and believes a healthy diet plays an important role in keeping your skin clear.

“In the past year, I’ve eaten better than I have ever eaten—less fast food, less sugar—and the sustainability of my body is so much better. My face just glows.”

1 Tips From Dr. Pimple Popper

TLC’s Dr. Pimple Popper - Sandra Lee IRL - recently shared her acne-prevention tips with Allure Magazine, and honestly, you’re about to learn a lot!

Firstly, determine what type of acne you have in order to treat it in the best possible way.

If you’re prone to come drones (blackheads and whiteheads) Lee suggests adding retinol products into your routine.

“They're going to help to minimize blocking of pores,” she says.

If you have papules, Lee recommends opting for an ingredient with antibacterial effects, like benzoyl peroxide.

“It is both antimicrobial, killing bacteria and other organisms, and an exfoliant, helping to unclog pores and gently debride the surface layer of skin.”

And if you have cystic acne, your best option is prescribed acne medication such as Accutane, she says.

If you have all types of acne, Lee recommends using two ingredients.

“Glycolic and salicylic acids will exfoliate and help to clean the debris out of your pores; they can help with brown spots and hyperpigmentation,” she explains.

It has worked for many A-listers, that's for sure!
