For every new video shoot, a live performance, red carpet event or simply running errands with her daughter Kulture, fans always see Cardi looking stylish with her hairstyles.
And Kylie Jenner is no different, seeing that she’s also a busy working mother with a booming cosmetics line that releases a new collection every other month, which means a new photoshoot and a whole new look.
With that said, would it come as a surprise to know that Kylie and Cardi use the same hairstylist? Yes, these ladies both use Tokyo Stylez to provide them with the most authentic-looking, unique wigs one can find in Hollywood, and he’s sure done a good job at coming up with new ideas for his clients.
How Much Does Tokyo Stylez Charge A Wig?
Well, there are usually two prices since buying a wig from Tokyo is one thing, but having it personally installed would ultimately cost his client more money.
Generally speaking, the 31-year-old says his wigs can cost anywhere between $500 to $5,000 — if you’re looking to get anything near the quality that sits on top of Kylie and Cardi’s head, one would definitely be looking at the higher mentioned price.
Considering how many outfits changes Kylie does in a week, her hair changes up in almost every single Instagram post, which means a new wig for each occasion — and while that may seem like a lot of money to some, the self-made billionaire certainly has the money to spend it.
If the beauty guru was believed to be spending $5,000 per wig and she wears up to 20 of them per month, Tokyo would have easily bagged himself $100,000, not to mention that he’s often known to go over to Kylie’s home in Hidden Hills and install the wigs himself.
For Cardi, on the other hand, Tokyo is actually known as the Bronx native’s personal hairstylist who flies everywhere the rapper goes when it comes to all of her public appearances and music video shoots.
The two have been working together for well over three years, and while one can assume that the “WAP” hitmaker pays the same amount as Kylie, considering their close relationship and the fact that he’s always on-the-go with her, Tokyo presumably charges a different amount for her considering that travel and accommodation expenses are usually always included when working with Cardi.
To date, Tokyo has worked with some of the biggest celebrities in Hollywood including Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and Naomi Campbell.
For the wig Cardi sported on her debut album cover of Invasion of Privacy, Tokyo shared how the hairstyle initially wasn’t something his client felt comfortable wearing, but after having worked his magic on her hair, not only was the “I Like It” chart-topper left satisfied, but it became one of her most iconic looks to date.
Even Ciara recreated the album cover for Halloween in October 2020.
"The album cover for Invasion of Privacy with the yellow wig,” Tokyo told Refinery29 in April 2019. “That was actually an accident. I had a lot of options. We tried everything and nothing was working with the wardrobe.
“I had that yellow wig, and she said, 'Hell no, Tokyo,' but we still put it on and it was a hit. She started feeling it, and it became an iconic look.”
When asked how Tokyo found himself getting into the world of hair, he says what initially started out as a project to help cancer patients find confidence in themselves turned into dozens of people requesting wigs from him due to their high quality.
"When I moved to D.C., my friend had an organization with cancer patients, but she didn't know how to make wigs, so she asked me to make a few. I didn't really know how to make wigs either, but I went for it.
“Next thing you know, what I was creating looked so realistic and people couldn't believe it. Then, my regular clients started wanting these wigs. It went from me just trying to help somebody to helping everybody.”
Tokyo adds that his wigs can last up to two years, but this would usually depend on different factors, including whether it’ll face sunny or rainy conditions, among other things.
These days, everybody familiar with Kylie or Cardi will have most likely heard of the name Tokyo Stylez, who has reportedly amassed a $5 million net worth since his rise to fame as one of the most sought-after hairstylists for the celebs.
