Since 1991, Maury Povich has entertained viewers around the world with his long-running talk show, Maury, having taped over 4,800 episodes and spanned an incredible 23 seasons so far — and it doesn’t seem as if the TV personality plans of slowing down anytime soon.

The show, which gained its popularity for its “Who’s The Father?” segments, is a syndicated show which airs around the world, and with the recent news that Maury has been picked up for another two seasons, one wonders how much money the 81-year-old makes per year.

How Much Does Maury Povich Earn On ‘Maury’?

While Maury is one of the longest-running talk shows, reaching close to three decades by 2021, Povich wasn’t (and still isn’t) making the same numbers as Judy Sheindlin, who was pulling in $47 million per year from her hit series, Judge Judy, which ran for a cool 25 years.

Instead, reports claim that NBCUniversal pays Povich a salary of $14 million a year to continue hosting his talk show, which might shock fans considering how long he’s been fronting the program and it’s sustained its popularity throughout.

The TV star has therefore managed to amass an $80 million net worth, making him one of the richest talk show hosts in the entertainment industry.

Maury has continued to grow in viewership thanks to its viral videos on social media, which has given the show another platform to share its original content with its audience, who’ve amassed its official YouTube channel millions of views.

Speaking of the success he’s had through social media, he told Forbes in 2018: “Because of our show and all the social media outlets, whether it is Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, we have been able to connect with our viewers. We have also done original programming for social media that doesn’t even appear on our regular show.”

During his chat with the publication, Povich also explained that the reason why his show has lasted for as long as it has is simply down to the fact that his passion never faded — he always looks forward to taping new episodes, meeting new guests, and exploring different topics, adding that it’s not how you start but how you finish.

“You really have to love what you do. If you are doing something, and it’s a drag, then get out. You are going to get a lot of disappointments. You will experience highs and a lot of lows. If you feel that it doesn’t matter whether it’s high or low because you love the possibilities, do it.”

Applying that way of thinking, Povich, who started out working in newsrooms, has been able to sustain a cool salary worth $14 million per year from NBCUniversal, and with the show being renewed through 2022, he knows there’ll be another $26 million entering his bank account once the current contract comes to an end.

In an official statement made by the studio back in February 2020, it was noted that thanks to the growing success Maury has had with its most recent seasons, NBCUniversal has seen no reason not to renew the show for two more runs.

“It is no surprise that Maury continues to resonate with audiences,” Tracie Wilson, Executive President of Creative Affairs at the firm announced.

“Maury’s connection with his guests and no-nonsense brand of storytelling, along with our talented production team, has made Maury a mainstay in daytime TV, consistently delivering entertaining content.”

Povich went on to add his two cents to the exciting news on continuing his partnership with the company, referring to his relationship with the execs as a “great marriage.”

“Like my father used to say about his marriage to my mother after 60 years, we take this one decade at a time. With the Maury show and NBC, it’s a great marriage.”

Povich also has a team who runs his popular social media page, where clips from his show are known to go viral every other week, which has undoubtedly helped viewers to stay engaged on other platforms than just on television.

His Instagram page boasts over 400,000 follows while his Twitter commands close to 100,000 followers.

With two more seasons from Maury, not only will Povich earn a hefty payday, just because the show has only been renewed until 2022, that doesn’t mean that NBCUniversal won’t want to extend their contract — it all depends on how things continue to fare.

But it seems apparent that Povich and his popular daytime talk show won’t be facing the boot anytime soon.
