Kevin Spacey has proven to be a difficult name to consign to obscurity. For decades, the actor built up a very covetable career in Hollywood, in which he ended up winning two Academy Awards, one Golden Globe Award and one BATFTA.

In 2017, allegations of sexual impropriety began to be leveled against him, which ultimately brought an end to his decorated, mainstream career. In the years that have followed, however, Spacey has managed to somehow remain relevant, partly by finding work elsewhere, but also with some negative headlines.

In the last few weeks, for instance, Spacey has seen new sexual assault charges filed in the UK against him, for events that reportedly occurred between 2005 and 2013. In typical fashion, the actor released a calm and calculated statement, thanking the Crown Prosecution Service, and confirming that he would avail himself for hearings.

This would appear to be the new normal for the 62-year-old, who has remained adamant that he is innocent of all allegations against him.

Although Spacey has continued to work despite his cancelation, his net worth in those four years has plummeted by dozens of millions of dollars.

How Much Is Kevin Spacey Worth Today?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Kevin Spacey is estimated to be worth an impressive $70 million. Although this amount is significantly less than what he was worth nearly five years ago, it is nonetheless a big enough estate to last a few generations after him.

Spacey accumulated his net worth mostly over the course of a period of about four decades, starting around the mid-'80s. In 1986, the Jersey-born actor appeared in his first ever screen project: the comedy-drama film, Heartburn, which starred legendary actors Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson.

Before this, Spacey had spent about five years honing his acting talents in Broadway and Off-Broadway, in stage productions such as Ghosts, The Misanthrope, and Hurlyburly. Following his screen debut in '86, he went on to star in other films such as Working Girl and Swimming with Sharks.

The role that arguably made Spacey into the global brand name he would become was Roger "Verbal" Kint in The Usual Suspects. This won him his first Academy Award in 1996, with the second being for his part in Sam Mendes' black comedy-drama American Beauty of 1999.

Kevin Spacey Almost Cemented His Legacy With 'House Of Cards'

After his early successes, Kevin Spacey went on to play very successful roles in L.A. Confidential, Pay It Forward, K-PAX, Beyond the Sea, and Baby Driver, among others.

He continued performing on stage as well, in plays like Long Day's Journey Into Night, The Iceman Cometh and Lost in Yonkers, for which he won a Tony Award for 'Best Featured Actor in a Play.'

In March 2011, Spacey was officially cast in the Netflix original series, House of Cards, in which he played the role of corrupt and ambitious politician Frank Underwood. The show picked on like wildfire, becoming one of the most loved on television, and often sweeping up accolades at major award events.

Spacey's character was one of - if not the - outstanding character on House of Cards, and even won him a Golden Globe for 'Best Actor in a Television Series - Drama' in 2015.

As Frank Underwood, Spacey almost cemented his legacy in TV history. That was until the allegations against him surfaced, and everything came falling apart.

How Much Has Kevin Spacey's Net Worth Fallen In Recent Years?

Although Kevin Spacey is still an incredibly wealthy man, he has lost a considerable fortune in the time since he was canceled in Hollywood. Before the very first accusation against him in October 2017, the actor was estimated to be worth around $100 million.

To put that into context, that is as much as the likes of Bradley Cooper, William Shatner, and Robert Pattinson today, and significantly more than Matthew McConaughey, Matt Damon and Liam Neeson individually.

A plausible explanation for the drop in Spacey's net worth could be attributed to a $31 million payment he was ordered to make to MRC, the studio responsible for the making of House of Cards.

In its submissions, the studio argued that they had lost the money as they had already begun filming for a new season when they were forced to fire Spacey in light of the allegations against him. Should the actor lose the upcoming cases against him, he could see his net worth take an even bigger hit in the coming years.
