In order to be successful in Hollywood, there are certain aesthetics that need to be met. Of course, having the right look will only get an aspiring actor so far. There needs to be talent to back up those looks as well. This amounts to a lot of pressure to look the part while portraying it effortlessly. As such, many female actresses chase the current beauty trends to never age and deprive themselves to fit into couture clothing. And in the process, many forget why they wanted to be actors in the first place.

Living up to beauty standards is not something that is only women-specific, however. Men too feel the pressure to look young, have washboard abs, and have a thick head of hair. Barring these things, men have got to have something about them that draws audiences to the theaters. This is easier said than done when not an established actor. As such, men will go to extremes to make sure they look the part to secure roles that will make them successful on the large screen. A fact that Robert Pattinson, who was thrust onto the Hollywood scene as a celebrity and heartthrob due to his role in the Twilight series is all too painfully aware of.

Here is why Robert Pattinson tried a strange potato "detox."

Robert Pattinson Works Out But Prefers To Talk About Anything Else

Any actor who says they do not work out is either very lucky or lying, with the latter being more likely. As part of being ready to be cast in a project, every actor has a baseline where they like to stay so that they are not starting from square one to fit the role.

The Batman star does just this. But Pattinson prefers to talk about just about anything than what he does to stay in shape.

"It’s very, very easy to fall into that pattern as well, even if you’re just watching your calorie intake, it’s extraordinarily addictive—and you don’t quite realize how insidious it is until it’s too late," Pattinson explained.

Because of this, instead of detailing every questionable diet plan or trick of the trade that has been used to get into shape for a role, the Tenet star will do the opposite. He will falsely claim to not work out at all. Even if it is clear that there has been some serious time put in at the gym based on looks alone.

"I think if you’re working out all the time, you’re part of the problem," Pattinson explained about being an influence on others and how they should look.

"You set a precedent. No one was doing this in the ’70s. Even James Dean—he wasn’t exactly ripped."

Pattinson went on to say that there was a time when filming Twilight that he was told to put his shirt "back on again" after being asked to take it off for a scene. All because he did not work out. A similar path that the High Life star said he was taking for his role as Batman.

All of which was utter nonsense and fabrications. But not wanting to subject others to rigorous workout routines and calorie-restrictive diets that could be triggering, Pattinson has more fun lying about what he does instead.

Robert Pattinson Has "Tried Every Fad Diet Out There"

With that being said, Pattinson will admit that he has tried just about every diet available to man to get into and stay in shape. None of these have lasted or been successful for The King star in the long run.

"I have basically tried every fad you can think of, everything except consistency," Pattinson explained to ES Magazine.

"I once ate nothing but potatoes for two weeks, as a detox. Just boiled potatoes and Himalayan pink salt. Apparently it’s a cleanse… you definitely lose weight."

Pattinson has even tried to get on the Keto train but like so many people, was unsuccessful.

"I was like, “Oh, there’s a diet where you just eat charcuterie boards and cheese all the time?” Pattinson stated. "But I didn’t realize that you can’t have beer as it completely defeats the purpose."

As such, instead of jumping on the latest weight-loss bandwagon or trying the workout that promises results in no time flat, the Good Times star is going to try what works well for so many this year, and that is finding "consistency" in life.

Robert Pattinson's Motivation For Getting In Shape For A Role Is Relatable

No one is harder on themselves than actors. Many have such a hard time critiquing themselves, they refuse to watch any films they star in. And while Pattinson may not go to that extreme, he wants to look good when he removes clothes for the big screen.

As such, The Lost City of Z star was blunt about what his motivating factor is to get in shape for a role. It is nothing other than "shame."

"I had about three months before the movie started, and then you’re working out before and after work all the time," Pattinson said about preparing for The Batman. And the closer the day comes to being shirtless, the more restrictive the diet becomes.

"You just cut down and cut down and cut down before the couple of scenes with your shirt off, and you're counting sips of water."

When asked if it was being shirtless that was the biggest motivating factor to getting into shape, Pattinson stated, "Oh yeah. Shame is my biggest motivator, 100%."

To look the part for a role, actors have to transform their bodies in a variety of ways. Some of which are not always the healthiest. As such, it is refreshing to have a star not revel in the process or glorify it so that impressionable fans will not follow suit. Of course, there's no telling what challenges will arise with Batman 2—if Pattinson plans to join up.
