Former teen heartthrob, Ryan Phillippe, has been a long-standing presence in the entertainment industry. The actor has made headlines with his acting, his former marriage to Reese Witherspoon, and even his relationships with his kids. It's not easy being in the limelight, but it's something Phillippe has done for years now.

The actor has been up to a lot since breaking out, and a few years back, Phillippe made headlines for a real estate deal that net a loss.

Let's take a look at Ryan Phillippe and how selling his house lost him a small fortune.

Ryan Phillippe Is A Successful Actor

During the 1990s, there was an influx of young stars who made a name for themselves in Hollywood. Among those names was Ryan Phillippe, who was able to become a popular name for years on end.

Phillippe's early career featured popular movies like Crimson Tide and I Know What You Did Last Summer, the latter of which was paramount in Phillippe becoming one of the most popular new faces in all of Hollywood. Those early films successes set the stage for what the actor would go on to accomplish on the big screen.

On the small screen, the actor landed roles early and often. A 13-episode run on One LIfe to Live got the ball rolling, and the actor continued making appearances on TV for the remainder of the 90s. After a lengthy break, he returned to television, eventually starring on shows like Secrets and Lies, and Shooter.

Over time, the actor, has learned to balance work and famliy life, which has changed his approach to things.

"You read a script when you are young, you’re like Oh, I can’t wait to do this badass thing and we’ll be in this far off place. As you get older, it’s kind of like Well, what are the hours going to be and can I fly back home to see my family?," he said.

After finding a great deal of success during his career, Phillippe has been able to amass an impressive net worth.

He Has A Net Worth Of $30 Million

According to Celebrity Net Worth, the actor is currently worth a whopping $30 million, which is a remarkable feat. Sure, his ex, Reese Witherspoon, is worth $400 million, but no one is going to complain about being worth tens of millions of dollars.

When looking at Phillippe's biggest paydays, it becomes clear that the actor knows a thing or two about making money.

For the film Antitrust, the actor pocketed $1 million, which was then doubled for The I Inside. Those two projects represent some of his biggest reported paydays, though he has made millions of dollars combined with his other biggest roles. Again, not all of his salaries have been reported, so he's like made a lot more money than people realize.

All of these movie roles positively impacted Phillippe's net worth, but unfortunately, Phillippe's net worth has been negatively impacted by decisions like selling his home, which he took a huge loss on.

How He Lost $1 Million While Selling His Home

According to the LA Times, "With a master suite that takes up an entire level, the gated five-bedroom, 6.5-bathroom house contains 7,600 square feet of living space. Among its features are a gym, a media room and separate guest or office space. The more than half an acre of grounds includes a swimming pool with underwater speakers, a spa and an outdoor kitchen. Stressing the privacy and security of the “Zen-modern retreat,” listing details note that the two-story entry hall was used as a gym."

This sounds like a beautiful home that anyone would be lucky to have, but unfortunately, Phillippe was unable to make back the money that he initially spent on the house.

In the write-up regarding the deal, Celebrity Net Worth noted that, "After his divorce from Witherspoon, Phillippe paid $7.175 million for a 7,447 square foot home in the Hollywood Hills. He put the 5-bedroom home on the market for $7.45 million in late 2010, but it failed to sell, so he re-listed it for $6.995 million in 2012, finally selling it for $6 million in March 2013."

No one wants to eat any sort of loss when selling a house, let alone a loss of over $1 million. While it must have stung for the star at first, he was able to move on from the home an into something else.
