If you take a look at Snoop Dogg's resume, you'll find a variety of bizarre gigs you wouldn't normally find in the same list. We're not just talking about his odd collaboration with Martha Stewart here. Throughout the years, the Gin N Juice rapper has practically joined every pop culture trend around the globe. Remember when he was featured in Korean singer Psy's hit, HANGOVER in 2014? Or when he made a cameo in the 2008 Indian Bollywood film Singh Is Kinng whose soundtrack was performed by the hip-hop artist himself?

You could say the man has a diverse palate. Still, it's interesting that after having done a Gospel album and getting into wrestling, it was still surprising to see him on Law & Order: SVU in 2019. Despite playing a rapper on the episode, fans were still confused as to why Snoop was in the legal drama. Before we see him headlining the 2022 Super Bowl, let's take a look back at how the Beautiful rapper landed a cameo in the hit NBC series.

How Was Snoop Dogg Cast In 'Law & Order: SVU'?

It's unclear how the D-O-Double-G was tapped for a cameo in the series. There were speculations that the 16-time Grammy nominee only did it for clout. But based on his track record, we highly doubt it. SVU is also known for having musicians on the show. Some of the previous guests were Ludacris, Hilary Duff, and Harry Connick Jr. So it wasn't really a stretch to have Snoop on the episode fittingly titled Diss. He played rapper P.T. Banks who gets in a street fight with comedian Orlando Jones' Justin "Snake Eye" Anderson. It was the perfect celebration for the show's record-breaking 21st season renewal — the longest run of a primetime drama on a major broadcast network.

"He’s doing amazing things in the world and he’s just Snoop, which is the coolest thing ever," lead star Mariska Hargitay said of the rapper during an interview with Stephen Colbert. She also recalled having a fun experience acting alongside the Sensual Seduction hitmaker. "So, I’m doing this thing," she said. "I’m arresting him, I’m giving him the old one-two, as I like to say. And I think we’re besties."

However, the Jocks star shared that her "genius" joke failed to impress the rapper. "So, I had this idea on set. My friend, my co-star, came up with the idea [to rap], 'Double O-G in the 1 PP' [The New York Police Department headquarters, One Police Plaza abbreviated as 1 PP]," Hargitay remembered, adding that she said the line when she got to talk to Snoop in his trailer. She said the joke didn't land and that he responded with, "I don’t know what that is." She said they "just hugged, and it was all good."

What Did Fans Really Think Of Snoop Dogg's Performance In 'SVU'?

Fans were divided about the rapper's performance. A Reddit thread titled "S20 E22 (Diss) is trash" described the episode as "grossly unsatisfying" and as "a f--king waste of an episode for Snoop." For the record, the Training Day star's performance wasn't the issue at all. A fan wrote: "Pretty neutral about the episode in general... but boy, with how much they hyped Snoop up in advertising, am I the only one who expected he'd be on screen for more then 45 seconds?" With the Who Am I rapper doing his rendition of the SVU opening narration, of course, fans expected more screentime for him.

If we're strictly talking about Snoop's acting, fans only had the nicest things to say. "Snoop gotta do some more acting," a fan tweeted. Some even suggested that they should have had him back even just for the opening intro. Fans of the rapper think he has some good acting skills. The Young, Wild, & Free singer confessed that trying out acting was an influence of the late Tupac Shakur. "After he passed away I started getting a lot of movie roles and all this stuff. Pac was looking out for us even after he was gone," said the rapper in 2017 during Tupac's induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
