The small screen is filled with plenty of shows that grab our attention and keep us coming back for more each week. Whether these shows are airing new episodes or are being binged in our downtime, there is nothing quite like a great television series to pass some time with. Shows like FriendsThe Officeand The Bachelor have all been able to do this better than most.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of the most loved shows on television, and one of the primary reasons why it is so popular is the fact that it is well cast. Terry Crews has been simply perfect as Terry Jeffords, and it is pretty amazing to look at how he was able to land the gig.

Let’s see the story behind Terry Crews landing this amazing role!

The Role Was Written Specifically For Him

Ever watch a television show or a movie and think that no one else in the world could play a particular role? Well, sometimes, roles are specifically developed for a performer, and in the case of Terry Jeffords on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the role itself was actually written for Terry Crews.

Keep in mind that getting an actor on board for a role that was developed for them is not always a guarantee, as many prominent actors could be fielding multiple offers at the time. Luckily for the folks developing Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Terry Crews would eventually come on board.

The questions about the role was posed on Quora, and Terry himself went ahead and took the reins on answering it.

He would say, “Yes! I had three pilots I was looking at and Dan Goor and Michael Schur called me up and they said, "Hey Terry, we heard you're looking at other pilots. If you take another pilot, you're going to feel horrible because your name is going to be on somebody else." And I went...“Of course I'll do it." And that's how Terry got on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.”

Things would have been a lot different had Crews accepted any other offer, but luckily, he made the right decision. Not only was he able to help the role reach its true potential, but he was also able to help elevate the rest of the cast on the show.

He Has Received Award Nominations For The Role

Over the years, we have seen plenty of people fall in love with Brooklyn Nine-Nine, even to the point of bringing it back from cancellation. This is not something that happens often in Hollywood, but the demand for the show was simply too great for other networks to simply ignore.

Not only has the show received loyal support from fans and plenty of love from critics, but it has also garnered plenty of awards and nominations. In fact, Crews himself has been part of some of these notable nominations through the years.

According to IMDb, Crews has been nominated for 3 different awards during his time on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, including a Black Reel Award and two NAACP Image Awards. Furthermore, the show itself has landed some impressive hardware, including a Golden Globe for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy.

There is plenty of acclaim to go around on the series, and it is largely due to the casting of each role. Writing is the basis for the show’s greatness, of course, but the right people playing the right characters truly elevates everything we see on screen.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Future

Even though the show has been axed once, it has continued to thrive and make big things happen with each season. After 7 seasons on the small screen, some have wondered whether or not Nine-Nine will be coming back for more, and fans will be happy to hear that there will be an 8th season.

As it stands now, season 8 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine will be heading to your living room in 2021. There are loads of amazing shows that will be debuting and continuing during that calendar year, and Nine-Nine fans are thrilled that their favorite officers will be back on the beat in no time.

There is no word on whether or not there will be a ninth season. Sometimes, networks will jump the shark a little bit when announcing future seasons of a show, but this does not always work out for the better. However, if Nine-Nine continues to be a success on the small screen, then there is simply no reason why it would not be around for a ninth season.
