When you think of some of the most valuable movie props, you probably think of Dorothy's ruby slippers or the one ring from Lord of the Rings. While many cinephiles will say that those props are priceless, there are other props that are truly worth a lot of money.

Some of the most expensive props actually appear in one of the most popular rom-coms of the past 30 years, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, which starred Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. Hudson might be Hollywood royalty, but even she couldn't afford to purchase the jewelry used in the film, which is worth $14.2 million collectively.

Here's the story behind these precious gems and how they got their debut in the film. Let's just say, this wasn't the Hudson/McConaughey film where they play treasure hunters.

The Diamonds Are Kinda Like A Character Themselves

Like many rom-coms, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days follows a plot centered around a bet. Hudson's character, Annie, is trying to write an article called How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and McConaughey's character, Ben, is trying to prove he can get any woman to fall in love with him in ten days, in a bet. If he succeeds he'll be able to lead the advertising campaign for his companies new clients, DeLauer Diamonds.

Both don't realize the other's intentions, after Ben's adversaries, who know about Annie's article, set them up. After a long back and forth, they of course live happily ever after.

The climax of the film, however, builds to a very important event, organized by Ben, to showcase DeLauer's most expensive and prestigious items.

For the "Frost Yourself" gala scene, filmmakers were able to acquire a loan of jewelry worth $14.2 million. The most impressive piece loaned was the yellow wreath necklace that is loaned to Annie to wear during the ball.

The necklace is an 84ct yellow diamond pendant called "Isadora," which is named after Isadora Duncan. It's worth anywhere between $5 million and $6 million and was made by Harry Winston. Apparently, it sold for $5 million in real-life shortly after the film was released.

To match the necklace, there were also the pair of 5ct radiant cut yellow diamond stud earrings that Annie wore to the ball. They are worth about $125,000 and complete Annie's yellow outfit which was designed around the expensive yellow gems by the German designer Dina Bar-El. Lana wears a real diamond tiara and a Canel dress to the gala as well.

There is also the jewelry that Mrs. DeLauer wears. According to Buzzfeed, DeLauer was a total scene-stealer who should have gotten more screen time. But at least we got to spot her impressive accessories for a split second. Judy Green also wears a beautiful choker that has to be worth a good chunk too.

Because of the loan, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days has become part of the group of films that have showcased some of the most famous jewels in the world. Other's include Breakfast at Tiffany's, Titanic, and Gone With the Wind.

If Hudson wanted to be around some precious gems and treasures, though, she got her way when she starred in Fools Gold, again co-starring with McConaughey in 2008. They become treasure hunters who find a truly impressive treasure and fall in love...again. The two films could almost be sequels.
