The internet is never short of controversial topics that causes people to argue incessantly. The latest of those topics is how well done we should have our toast.

There are certain things in life that many of us can be very particular about. Those things likely differ in severity from person to person. One example is how we take our tea and coffee. It can be positively frightening to let someone else make a hot drink for us. Yes, they know we want milk and sugar, but are they going to get it right and make it just how we like it?

Sticking with the kitchen, toast is another example of that. In fact, it turns out people are even more panicked about how well done their toast is than their tea or coffee. The odds of someone adding the right amount of cream to our coffee are far higher than them making toast just the way we like it.

Judging by a graphic recently posted on Twitter, there are nine different levels of toast. Number one looks like it is still just bread versus number nine which looks as if it has been left to cook while its eventual consumer has gone to work for the day. Shockingly, some people actually enjoy their toast from these ends of the scale.

As you can imagine, the toast post has whipped the internet up into a frenzy. Number 3s have been arguing with 7s, shaming people for daring to venture up to an 8, and even breaking down what number should be used and when. One of the top replies to the original post has explained that it depends what you are using the toast for, whether it be for a grilled cheese, chicken sandwich, or just a run of the mill slice of toast.

You will likely hate us for this, but we at TheThings tend to have our toast at the lower end of the above scale. If someone were to make it for us and we were presented with anything more than a 5, it would downright ruin our day. Meanwhile, a poll currently in progress on Metro's website has 5, 6, and 4 as the top three, in that order. Number 8 is currently the least popular.
