Kat Von D (originally Katherine von Drachenberg) not only has become a notable star, but she has proven herself to be a force to reckon with.

Best known as a “reality” TV star, Kat Von D was the main star to come out of shows like Miami Ink and LA Ink and that is to say nothing of the other series she guest-starred in.

On top of Kat Von D’s television success, she has built a multifaceted career in a lot of ways. An accomplished tattoo artist, if Von D hadn’t built a name for herself in that profession she never would have risen to fame in the first place. On top of that, her distinctive look has allowed her to become a successful businesswoman as the beauty line Kat Von D created was a hit from the start.

Able to make a healthy living as an adult, to say that Kat Von D has amassed an enviable fortune is a pretty big understatement. For proof of that, look no further than the fact that she bought an LA home for a staggering 6.5 million dollars in 2016. Not content with spending a great deal of money on the initial purchase price of her home, Von D went on to make some pretty radical changes to it which had to cost a pretty penny.

Home Of Note

When most people hit the real estate market, they only concern themselves with how well their potential home has been taken care of by the previous owners. Of course, when you are a wealthy star who is looking to buy a home in Los Angeles, there is a good chance your new purchase could have a pretty interesting history.

In the case of tattoo legend Kat Von D’s Los Angeles home, chances are that almost all of her fans will never have the chance to see it from the inside. However, if they want to get an idea of what the house was like in the past, all they have to do is seek out a 2003 family film that was popular enough to warrant a sequel that also performed well.

Married since 2018 and a mother of 2, Kat Von D and her family have a lot of room to move around in their home. After all, their house was heavily featured in the popular family film Cheaper by the Dozen. Considering her home is big enough that moviegoers could believe that a family of 12 could comfortably call it their home, Von D must believe that bigger is better.

Original Purchase

Already the things of dreams when the uber private Kat Von D purchased it, her $6.5 million Los Angeles Victorian home was a sight to behold. A three-story building in the historic Hancock Park neighborhood in the central region of Los Angeles, it measures in at an impressive 12,565 square feet. Located on a 27,000-square-foot lot, the property also includes a swimming pool and a carriage house over the garage which features an additional 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom.

Designed by Newton Van Nuys and built in 1890, based on the home's fantastic architectural design it looks its age in the best ways possible. Featuring 11 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, the main floor also includes a library, dining room, a sitting room, and a living room that is big enough that it could be called a ballroom.

If all of that wasn’t enough, and it certainly is, the home also includes a couple of unique features that any homeowner would love to brag about. For example, on top of the bedrooms and kitchenette that exist on the third floor, there is a stage that had original footlights when she bought the house. Finally, there is a hidden bar that features hand-carved walls and a secret exterior door.

Big Changes

No longer the kind of house that you would typically see in a family film, Kat Von D wasted no time bringing her unique visual flair to her LA residence. For the most part, you have to enter the home to see the differences Kat has made but that isn’t always the case. For example, Kat decided to pull out most of the plants in the garden in order to replace them with plants that are black when they bloom. On top of that, if you look carefully you may notice a skull in the foliage.

When it comes to the interior of Kat Von D’s beloved Los Angeles home, she has embraced a gothic style that would make her residence stand out in any neighborhood. Featuring a bevy of dark pieces of art on the walls and furniture that could easily be found in any Dracula film, practically every detail has been customized to Von D’s tastes.
