Actor Matthew McConaughey, fresh from his successful memoir Green Lights, has bought a custom-built home in Hawaii. The $7.8 million dollar house has it all, with ocean views, an airy open interior, and understated luxury.

Pictures of Matthew and his wife Camila Alves with their three kids Levi, Livingston, and Vida cavorting on Hawaiian beaches or cruising the ocean in one of their boats are everywhere. It's a laid-back, outside, fun kind of life. While they spend most of their time in their home in Austin, Texas where his mom Kay McConaughey lives, the Hawaiian house is the perfect tropical vacay spot. It's got sun, sea, and fresh ocean breezes and a knock-out of a house that lets the family bring the outside inside.

Let's have a look inside Matthew McConaughey's $8 million Hawaiian hideaway. It'll probably make you jealous!

Escape To Paradise

Matthew McConaughey bought the $7.85 million Hawaiian house back in December of 2020. First, the basic facts. The house is custom-built,  single-level, with beamed vaulted ceilings throughout for that light and airy feel. It's built around a courtyard filled with blooming plants and palm trees.

The interior and the furniture are neutral and soothing. And there are plenty of ceiling fans to keep things cool. Realtor.com described the vibe of the place as "barefoot elegance". And, even better, Matthew and his family will be the first people to live there. The house is brand new.

It's got six bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms, including two master suites. It's on the Kohala Coast of Hawaii's Big Island. And it's smack in the middle of the posh Kukio Beach and Golf Club. So, if Matthew fancies a round of golf or tennis, it's right on his doorstep. And if Camila wants a bit of pampering, there's a spa she can visit.

Houses in Kukio can get expensive. Matthew's place is fairly modest by the Club's standards. At the upper end, expect to pay more than $20 million. Fancy a cottage? You can pick one up for around $6 million. And if you want to build your own place, expect to pay millions and millions for just the lot. It's definitely a place for really rich people.

The grounds are around 7,000 square feet, which is less than a quarter acre. Perfect for a vacation home. And the house itself has 5,328 square feet of living space. There's plenty of room for quality family time or "me" time as well.

And, wait for it, the living room, as well as the two master bedrooms have large sliding glass doors that open the house up to cooling ocean breezes. You can just about open the whole house to the great outdoors. The two master suites even have (very) private outdoor showers! The other four bedrooms, by Kukio standards, are fairly modest.

The bathrooms are modern and have large sliding glass doors that allow you to bathe or shower while communing with the great Hawaiian outdoors.

And outside? There are lush flora and fauna, a beach, two swimming pools, including a 66-foot-long infinity pool. And on chilly evenings Matthew can lounge in the warmth of one of the house's two fire pits. And for enjoying the outdoors, there are several verandas furnished with chairs and loungers.

Inside, there is a huge vaulted-ceilinged kitchen and a ground-floor wine cellar that Matthew keeps full of his favorite vintages.

The house even has an outdoor kitchen, just in case Matthew and Camila fancy a big out dining al fresco. It's a great space for entertaining too.

Decorated mostly in neutral tones, the house features a spacious living room with a sofa perfect for cuddling up to watch a film. Or you could skip the film and just cuddle!

Of course, the sprawling house has a media room, a mini-movie theater, where Matthew can show films, his and otherwise. For when he needs to get down to business there is an office and, rather oddly, a bocce court. Odd? Well, it's a ball game that's similar to British bowls.  Doesn't seem like Matthew's kind of thing, but then you never know.

Hawaii is a popular spot for celebrity vacay homes. Julia Robert, Oprah Winfrey, and Bette Midler have all bought part-time homes there. When he was President, Obama had a "Winter White House" on the Big Island.

While Matthew McConaughey will always be a Texas boy and call it home, his new Hawaiian place allows him to get away from the pressures of celebrity and show biz and just kick back, play on the water, and enjoy quality time with his wife Camila and his three kids. It goes without saying, his children love it there big time.
