In 2008, O.J. Simpson was convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping. The sentence? 8-33 years. Seems he and his "associates" had broken into a Las Vegas hotel room to "recover" some sports memorabilia he claimed had been stolen from him.

In 1995 he had been infamously been found not guilty of the 1994 murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her "friend" Ron Goldman. A couple of years later, the Browns and Goldmans filed a wrongful death civil suit against The Juice and won $33.5 million in damages. Did O.J. pay up? Are you kidding? No way.

Back to the robbery. Some say the stiff sentence Simpson received was payback his acquittal in 1995. He and his "Dream Team" of lawyers, including Robert Kardashian, pulled every stunt and trick in the book to get him off.

So, 12 years ago O.J. was shipped off to Nevada's Lovelock Correctional Facility. And he served 9 years before he managed to win parole. Simpson was finally freed in 2017.

Let's have a look at O.J.'s time in prison. What was it like? And what about those rumors that he was beaten up by white supremacists in 2011?

Depressed, Angry, And Bored

O.J. came to Lovelock as mad as hell. Why? Says Lovelock guard Jeffrey Felix: O.J. believed "that Nevada [was] making up for California and that because California couldn't convict him for the murders, that [Nevada] convicted him on some B.S. charges."

In his early days at Lovelock, Simpson's anger and depression caused him to inhale junk food like there was no tomorrow. A fellow inmate Greg Lewis remembers Simpson constantly stuffing his face with chocolate chip cookies, ramen noodles, and sticky cinnamon rolls. He put on around 70 pounds. In his later years at Lovelock, he cleaned up his act and lost weight. It didn't help that in the beginning, O.J. spent most of his time either eating, watching TV, or playing fantasy football. And, yes, his knowledge of the NFL meant he often won.

And, of course, he kept in touch with friends and his kids, Sydney and Justin, over the phone.

Settling In Very Nicely

Tom Scotto, a friend of Simpson's, visited often. Scotto has said that after the first few difficult years, The Juice settled in very nicely. He was coaching an inmate baseball team he called "The Giants." Thanks to Simpson's skill and a little rule-bending, his team often won.

According to former inmate Greg Lewis: Simpson led his team to championships 2 years in a row. He was super-competitive, as you might imagine with O.J. He'd try to get the rules bent for us." Lewis said he was a great coach.

His friend Tom Scotto said that O.J. was "a positive influence" who "brought everybody together", black, white, Latino, you name it. Says O.J.'s guard (and BFF) at Lovelock Jeffrey Felix other Nevada prisons were tinderboxes of racial tension. At his unsuccessful 2013 parole hearing, Simpson himself said he was a "prison diplomat".

In 2011, The National Enquirer, that beacon of truth (not) ran a story that said O.J. had been beaten to a pulp by white supremacists inmates. Was it true? Are you kidding? No, of course, it wasn't true. But it sold a lot of papers. Apparently, O.J. laughed his a** off over the claim, calling it "chicken s**t".

In fact, relatively speaking, O.J. led a privileged life inside. Did he get preferential treatment? You bet he did. Everybody just accepted the fact that if there was a line for something, O.J. automatically went to the front of it. When Simpson bought groceries, inmates gladly carried his bags for him. He was, after all, The Juice. And celebrity sometimes has its privileges, even in jail.

And the administration made certain that O.J. always had a big and beefy cellmate. Why? Well, the cellmate was there to look after and protect O.J., just in case.

Fellow inmate Greg Lewis has said: "His cellmates were usually bigger dudes that could take care of business if anybody hassled him."

My Best Friend The Guard.

Unusually, prison guard, Jeffrey Felix became a friend and confidante of O.J.'s. They had cozy little chats and spent a lot of time together. After he retired in 2016 Felix went for his 15 of fame, self-publishing a book called Guarding the Juice: How O.J. Simpson Became My Prison BFF.

In it, Felix claimed that Kim Kardashian and her hubby Kanye West "called and wrote to Simpson behind bars." So totally not true, said Kim and Kanye.

He reported: "O.J. Simpson is not suffering in prison. He's eating well. He's exercising well. He's got a flat-screen TV."

Felix came to believe that O.J. had indeed killed his ex-wife Nicole and her friend Ron Goldman.

"O.J. told me one time that only two people alive know who committed the Brentwood murders: him and [his best friend] Al Cowlings." And neither one of them was talking.

Finally, That Parole Came Through

In 2017, O.J. went before the Nevada Parole Board and finally got his freedom. He was granted parole.

Last seen, he was alive and well and enjoying his millions in his Las Vegas mansion.
