Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart seem completely dissimilar. For example, one appears to actively hate being famous while the other seems comfortable remaining out of the spotlight while raking in some serious dough. Aesthetically, the two accomplished actors also don't seem to have much in common. However, Dakota and Kristen have starred in multiple movies together and have some serious chemistry on-screen. But is that reflective of their true relationship or are they just THAT good at acting? In short, are they actually friends?

Someone That She Was Going To Know Forever

You can look at a line like "She was someone that I was going to know forever" a couple of ways. Given the fact that Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart made multiple Twilight movies together and co-starred in Cherry Bomb, a biopic of the band The Runaways, it could be interpreted as the two of them were forced to know each other "forever". But that's not the case from Dakota's perspective.

In 2016, Dakota spoke at Elle's Women In Hollywood Awards where she honored Kristen Stewart, a person she has a called 'a friend' for a great deal of her adult life. And she can say that with clarity, now that she's all grown up.

"We had met in passing on the set of a short film and were once in a meeting together, but neither of those instances feel special enough to be the moment that we met so I'm choosing my own moment," Dakota Fanning told the audience at Elle's Women In Hollywood Awards in 2016. "We were sitting in a warming tent on a soundstage on our first day working together on New Moon. Our conversation took a deep turn very quickly. And I walked out of that tent knowing that I just connected with someone that I was going to know forever. I was 15-years-old. I am now 22. And I can honestly say that my friendship with Kristen is one of the most special bonds in my life. She has held my hair back and talked me through heartbreak. She has always been there for me when I have needed her most and most of all she has taught me the power of being one hundred percent yourself one hundred percent of the time."

Dakota ended her heartfelt speech by saying, "I admire your fierce loyalty to those of whom you love, I admire your limitless curiosity and your commitment to creativity. I am so proud of you, I am so proud to call you one of my best friends in this world and you are my sister forever. I can't present an award to Kristen Stewart and not say "f***" so, lastly, I love you so f***ing much!"

In Kristen's response speech, she claimed that she has looked up to Dakota, who started out in the industry much earlier despite being younger.

"I've looked up to you since I was, like, ten… no, you were five? Who knows, maybe I was, like, nine? Oh my God, dude I love you so much."

Kristen Was Protective Of Dakota And Dakota Paid Her Friend Back

While the two became close friends over their experiences filming various movies together, Kristen admitted that she felt protective over Dakota. After all, she is a few years older than the I Am Sam and War of the Worlds former child star. In an interview with Access Hollywood, she explained that she had to be careful not to make some of their steamy scenes in The Runaways not too full-on as Dakota was still underaged.

But Dakota protected Kristen just as much during her public breakup with Robert Pattinson and the affair with her Snow White and the Huntsman director.

In fact, Dakota flat-out rejected answering an interviewers' question about Kristen's affair with the married director saying that she wouldn't "go there". She did the same thing while being interviewed by InStyle UK:

"Well, I just think that media frenzies like that...Everyone thinks they have the right to, you know, publicize the struggles and sadness and heartbreak and all that," Dakota said in defense of her scandal-ridden friend. "It's like, 'Why do you think you are the authority to judge people's experiences?'"

Now that's a real friend!

In recent years, Dakota and Kristen haven't been spotted together as much. Nor have they featured each other on their social media accounts. However, it's abundantly clear that no matter where life has taken them, the two will share a bond forever. These two are legitimate friends and that's pretty refreshing to see given Hollywood's obsession with pitting young women against each other.
