In country music, there are some notable couples that often make headlines. Blake Shelton first turned heads with his much-publicized split from Miranda Lambert, who later said Blake had left her "broken down" after their divorce. Then Blake connected with Gwen Stefani, and their relationship made headlines all on its own.Other stars have similarly been put in the spotlight for reasons other than their music, and now, country star Jason Aldean is one of them. Though he doesn't seem to have commented on the drama his wife has inadvertently created, Jason Aldean might feel the impact of public perception toward both him and his wife. Will Brittany Aldean's allegedly transphobic comments cost her husband fans?

Brittany Aldean Struck A Nerve With Followers When She Posted A Controversial Caption

Brittany Aldean, née Kerr, married Jason in 2015. The two have two kids together (a son and daughter), and Aldean has two older daughters from his first marriage. When the two first got together, it was due to scandal; he "acted inappropriately" at a bar with Kerr while married to Jessica Ussery.

The following year, Jason filed for divorce, and the year after that, he and Kerr appeared on a red carpet together for the first time.

But now that the drama from Jason's first marriage and divorce has seemingly died down, each half of the couple appeared to grow their own fan base. Brittany is a former American Idol contestant and was previously a cheerleader and makeup artist.

Her social media following numbered over two million as of September 2022, but tons of those fans were angered when Brittany posted a caption under a photo that many interpreted as transphobic.

The caption on her Instagram post read, "I'd really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girly life."

Followers immediately began calling Brittany out for her comments.

Criticism Came From Followers And Fellow Musicians In Country Music

Though plenty of followers did support Brittany Aldean, many people flocked to her social media to criticize her comments. After the initial social media post, Brittany also took to Instagram Stories to talk about her opinion more in-depth.

Among other things, Aldean called gender-affirming procedures "mutilation" and said parents shouldn't make life-altering decisions for their children when the kids are underage, noted Billboard.

Cassaddee Pope and Maren Morris replied to Brittany's comments, with the latter calling her "insurrection Barbie."

Though both sides of the conversation found plenty of support on social media, people who disagree with Aldean also pointed out ways they felt she violated her stated beliefs, such as putting her kids in t-shirts they didn't understand the meaning of.

Will Jason Aldean's Wife's Comments Cause Him To Lose Fans?

On the heels of the country singer's wife's controversial comments, it seems Jason's team has decided they're better off without him. According to Newsweek, Jason's PR firm quit shortly after Brittany's controversial opinions surfaced.

The GreenRoom had previously represented Jason Aldean for 17 years, and stated that they made the "difficult decision" to "step away from representing Jason."

Their reasoning wasn't explicitly revealed, however. The PR firm further stated, "We aren't the best people for the gig anymore." The GreenRoom also noted that they will always be fans of his music, before calling Jason "one of the greatest live entertainers" in the industry.

But did Aldean's wife really cause him to lose his long-term PR team?

The timing did align with the controversy that sparked after Brittany's comments were first flagged on Instagram. But it doesn't seem that Brittany is at all concerned about angering her husband's fan base, or her own.

Plus, Jason was apparently on tour while his wife was dealing with the social media storm she created.

In fact, she took the opportunity of being in the spotlight to promote a new clothing line, with proceeds going to Operation Light Shine, which sheds light on human trafficking and child exploitation.

Brittany also continued to affirm that her words were taken out of context, but that at least the visibility was going to have a positive impact.

With that attitude toward the social media mess, it's possible Brittany's PR nightmare will end, and her husband's country music career will continue relatively unscathed.
