These days, fans may like to think that they know everything that’s going on with Sebastian Stan. In just a few years, the actor went from a relative unknown to one of Hollywood’s fastest rising stars. Arguably, it all began when Stan landed the role of Bucky in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).Since then, the actor has starred various critically acclaimed films, including I, Tonya and The Martian. More recently, he has also been headlining his own shows, first in Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and more recently, the Hulu series Pam & Tommy (which reportedly required some sex tape ‘research’)And while fans may also know all about Stan’s bromance with MCU co-star Anthony Mackie, it seems that only a few details have emerged about his actual romances over the years. That probably explains why there is so much fascination surrounding the actor’s current relationship with actress Alejandra Onieva.Surprisingly though, rumors have also emerged that Stan is only dating Onieva for the sake of staging a PR stunt.
Who Is Alejandra Onieva?
Onieva is a rising actress who started out with a small role in the Spanish film Por un Puñado de Besos (For a Handful of Kisses) that features a cast led by Ana de Armas. From there, the Madrid native went on to steadily book role in Spanish television, including in the critically acclaimed series Presumed Guilty.
In recent years, Onieva has also been gaining a lot of recognition for her performance in the Spanish series High Seas on Netflix. Set in the 1940s, the crime drama tells the story of two sisters who discover some disturbing family secrets after a series of mysterious deaths occurred on board the luxury ship that they were traveling on.
The series went on to run for three seasons. In 2020, however, it was announced that Netflix decided to cancel High Seas despite an initial decision to renew the series for a fourth season. Since then, fans haven’t really heard from Onieva. As it turns out, however, that’s about to change.
The actress is attached to the upcoming comedy-drama Stories Not to Be Told by acclaimed writer-director Cesc Gay. The film features five comedy tales that would intersect with each other at random. Adding more intrigue to the movie, Gay himself also teased that it would be “told with a lot of rhythm and action and characterized by acerbic, yet tongue-in-cheek tone, as the title suggests.” At the moment, it is unclear if the film will also be released in North America.
Is Sebastian Stan’s Romance With Alejandra Onieva Just A PR Stunt?
Despite the claims that Stan’s romance with Onieva is staged, it seems that the two actors are in a genuine romantic relationship with each other. It is believed that the two had been dating since 2020. However, it was only following summer when their relationship was confirmed.
Perhaps, much to his fans’ surprise, it was Stan himself who confirmed that he was with Onieva on Instagram.
“Over a year ago, out of a lot of darkness…you became the light,” he wrote in a post that featured a touching video to celebrate Onieva’s birthday. “I’m so grateful.”
Since then, Stan and Onieva have also been spotted together a few times. For starters, they were seen looking cozy and smitten as they strolled through a beach in Ibiza, Spain. The couple had apparently gone on a holiday to celebrate Stan’s 39th birthday.
Just like Stan, Onieva also posted a birthday tribute to her boyfriend.
“Today, many, many… years ago, my favorite soul came to life. Every word I could say about you wouldn’t be enough. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUU BEBELUS @imsebastianstan,” the actress wrote. “Thank you for showing me how to live life from the heart. Life is a gift, and experiencing it with you is the true beauty of it!”
Despite all these romantic moments, it seems that some fans still find it hard to believe that Stan and Onieva are truly together. In fact, they’ve even gone as far as accusing the couple of staging their romance.
There are some who pointed out that Stan has never acknowledged his relationships in the past. Hence, if he is openly posting about Onieva on social media, it must be fake. At the same time, there are also some who are claiming that Stan is fake-dating Onieva to hide his sexuality. For the record, however, there appears to be no real basis for this accusation.
On the other hand, some fans also pointed out that people’s issues against Stan and Onieva may just be due to outright jealousy. “They dub it as fake or pr as some sorta [sic] coping mechanism,” one Redditor explained.
Today, Stan and Onieva’s relationship appears to be going strong. In fact, the couple looks very happy together. At the end of the day, that’s all that really matters.
