After reigning within the industry, the duo expanded their family with their two kids, Chet and Truman Hanks.
Tom's son, Colin Hanks, is also well known in Hollywood, however, Colin stems from Tom's first marriage to Samantha Lewes. While Colin has remained in the limelight, the same can, unfortunately, be said for Tom and Rita's eldest, Chet. The 30-year-old is an actor and rapper, who was recently signed to Soulja Boy's label.
Chet Hanks has made headlines recently following his anti-vax stance, however, he's always been slightly problematic. Despite being close to Tom and Rita in the past, and even appearing in a few cameos in Tom's films, it appears as if Chet's online actions have caused a rift between him and his parents.

Despite his stance on a number of issues, specifically Covid-19, Chet has always been close with his parents. Whether it was joining them on the red carpet, or even appearing in small roles in Tom's movies, Chet and Tom always shared a special relationship.

Although his previous actions could have easily caused his parents to say enough is enough, there is much one can do when you're 30 years old, right? Well, when Chet Hanks took to his social media to share his thoughts regarding the vaccine, Tom and Rita finally had enough.

When Covid-19 was first declared a global pandemic, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson made international news as the very first major celebrity to contract the virus. This caused quite the ruckus amongst the public, leaving many worried for the duo; who were isolating in Australia at the time.
Considering Tom and Rita had the virus and recovered from it, it's safe to say that their kids would be careful in regards to how they'd approach talking about it on a public forum. Well, for Chet Hanks, it seems as if his parents having Covid-19 wasn't enough to stop him from expressing his opinions regarding the virus and the vaccine.
In a video posted to his Instagram, Chet Hans made his anti-vax stance very clear, which was officially the straw the broke the camel's back. Tom and Rita reportedly cut off their older son financially amidst the controversy, and fans totally see why! Although this doesn't necessarily mean that Tom and Rita are no longer speaking to their son, it's evident that they do not share similar values.
