Jackie Chan has been a famous actor, director, and martial artist for decades. He's been in the film industry since he was a little kid in the '60s, but the '70s is when he truly started becoming famous and Hollywood started recognizing his talent. He made his fame by performing all of his own stunts and only using a stuntman when it's absolutely necessary—even if that means almost getting killed or severely injured.

It seems like Jackie Chan will do anything to make sure his movies are awesome and after all of the stunts he's done, it's like he's invincible. His bravery to do his own stunts definitely makes his movies unique and makes the action scenes look authentic. He still does his own stunts today at 67-years-old. Let's take a look at the most dangerous stunts Jackie Chan has ever done.

6 ‘Police Story 3: Supercop’ (1992) – Helicopter Stunt

We’re starting the list off with one of the craziest stunts Jackie Chan has ever done. In Police Story 3: Supercop, he had two scenes that involved helicopters. The first one he had to leap from a building and hang onto a rope ladder that was coming out of the helicopter while it flew over the city. Surprisingly, he didn’t get hurt in that scene. It was the second one that caused damage. According to the South China Morning Post, “In another scene, a dangling Chan was supposed to dodge an incoming helicopter, but he failed to get out of the way, ripping his shoulder muscle thanks to the impact.”

5 ‘Armour Of God 2: Operation Condor’ (1991) - Swinging From A Chain Stunt

This one is not as dramatic as dangling from a helicopter, but it was still dangerous. It was so dangerous that he accidently fell and broke one of his bones. According to ScreenRant, “While swinging from a long chain in an underground Nazi stronghold, Chan inadvertently lost his grip and tumbled down to the ground below. The impact was so ferocious that he broke his sternum, which must have been sheer agony. The botched stunt can be seen in its entirety during the end credits scene of Operation Condor, and it's grisly.”

4 ‘Project A’ (1983) - Clock Tower Stunt

Project A is another movie where Jackie accidentally fell and hurt himself. He could’ve avoided getting hurt this time because he didn’t fall the first two times he did it, but he felt like the scene wasn’t good enough and had to redo it. His dangerous retake ended up part of the film. “Chan manages to make his way outside of the clock tower where he's forced to hang on for dear life from one of the clock's hands. When he loses his grip, he plunges straight down through two cloth rooftops and lands on the ground. Chan did the stunt twice but was unhappy with the result. The third attempt proved painful when he landed almost directly on his neck, nearly breaking it. Miraculously, he not only survived but stayed in character and finished the scene,” according to ScreenRant. Only Jackie Chan would be able to stay in character after almost breaking his neck.

3 ‘Hand Of Death’ (1975) - Truck Stunt

Hand of Death was the first time Jackie got injured on set and is still one of the worst injuries he’s ever had. The director thought he was dying because he got hurt so badly. “Jackie Chan suffered one of his worst injuries on the set of the 1975 film Hand of Death when he leaped off a truck and hit his head on the way down. Before the injury could fully set in, he repeated the jump a second time before passing out for one hour,” according to ScreenRant. Thankfully, he was able to wake up and his head injury didn’t cause any permanent damage.

2 ‘Police Story’ (1985) - Pole Slide Stunt

Police Story has tons of stunts throughout the film and Jackie pulled them off like they were nothing. But one of them left him with injuries all over his body. “The most notorious of the bunch occurred during the infamous mall sequence when Chan leaps off a balcony and grabs onto a pole before crashing through a glass roof. While sliding down the pole, Chan suffered electrical shocks, burns on his hands, a fractured finger, an assortment of cuts, and an injured pelvic bone and vertebrae,” according to ScreenRant. Most people probably would have stopped doing stunts after that, but not Jackie Chan. He still kept doing stunts for his movies and that surprisingly wasn’t even the worst injury he’s gotten on set.

1 ‘Armour Of God’ (1987) - Tree Stunt

Armour of God was the movie that almost killed him. The stunt he had to perform seemed simple at first, but it ended in disaster. “This required Chan to leap off the wall of a castle and onto a tree, then swing down through the branches. Although the first take went well, Chan did not think he was fast enough. On the second attempt, disaster struck when the tree branch Chan had launched himself onto broke. As he hit the ground, his head smacked a rock, fracturing his skull,” according to the South China Morning Post. Somehow he survived that stunt and was still able to star in movies after that, becoming the Jackie Chan we all know today.
