One thing is abundantly clear about Jason Momoa. He doesn't do anything in his life by half measures. You always know when he's really stoked about something, and those things get his undivided attention.
He really loves metal music, he gives it his all for every one of his roles and is fiercely loyal to all of his friends, and there's a lot of them. Basically, he's really passionate about everything in his life, no matter big or small, and that passion, of course, extends to his wife, Lisa Bonet.
Few things make him nervous, but meeting Bonet was something that terrified him, and yet he knew he had to have her one day. So he vowed to himself to "stalker" her until he got her.
Sounds like something he'd say. And, of course, it worked. Thank the Seven!
It Was More Than Love At First Sight For The Couple
Being the passionate person he is, it's not surprising that Momoa had a "love-at-first-sight" encounter with his soulmate. He knows what he wants, period. Even from a young age, he knew he wanted Bonet.
According to Momoa himself, it was at the young age of eight that he fell in love with Bonet, after seeing her on television, on The Cosby Show, where she played Denise Huxtable.
"Listen it was more than [love at first sight]," Momoa explained to James Corden on the Late Late Show. "Ever since I was 8 years old and I saw her on the TV I was like, 'Mommy, I want that one.'
"I was like, 'I’m going to stalk you for the rest of my life, and I’m going to get you.’ I’m a full-fledged stalker.
"I didn’t tell her that until we had two babies, otherwise, I’d be creepy and weird. But yeah, just always wanted to meet her. She was a queen, always."
The couple finally met, putting Momoa's stalker days to rest, after a mutual friend introduced them at a New York City jazz club (sounds about right).
"We just happened to be in the right place at the right time,” he continued to Corden. "I actually had dreaded my hair for her. I had dreadlocks, she had dreadlocks. I literally turned around and I see her and she goes, ‘I’m Lisa.’ I turned around to my friend and I [pretends to scream]. I had fireworks going off inside, man. I convinced her to take me home, because I was living in a hotel."
He was a nervous wreck when he finally asked her out on a date. All he could think about was how inferior he was to her.
"Especially when you meet someone you’re completely infatuated with and then find out she’s amazing, intelligent, and funny and she’s a goddess and you’re a degenerate,” Momoa told Men’s Health.
"I was a nervous wreck. I really don’t have any tips. Be you. Try to be funny and make her laugh," Momoa said when asked if he had any tips about asking someone out. Momoa eventually did conjure up enough courage to ask her out though.
On their first date, Bonet sealed the deal between them when she ordered a Guinness. That's all it took. Momoa already knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her but when she did that, Momoa was thanking the stars for his luck.
"We sat down, she ordered a Guinness, and that was it … I beyond love Guinness," Momoa said. "She ordered a Guinness and I ordered grits. We had Guinness and grits, and the rest is history."
"In that moment, love came and it came big, and he did not run as I think a lot of men do," Bonet told Porter in 2018. "He basically picked me up and threw me over his shoulder, caveman style!"
Soon enough, the caveman and the queen had babies. Lola came in 2007 and Nakoa-Wolf came in 2008, and the rest is history, recorded and kept in the Citadel, of course.
But honestly, who can say that they married their childhood crush? Momoa is one lucky man and he definitely knows it. He absolutely worships Bonet and vice versa. All is right in Essos. In fact, the Dothraki believe that the moon is a goddess and she is the wife of the sun. So if Bonet is a goddess to Momoa that means she's the moon and he's the sun. She's the moon to his sun. That describes their relationship perfectly.
