James Gunn has been dating Jennifer Holland since 2015, and in 2022 they announced their engagement. Holland plays a main role in Gunn's superhero TV show Peacemaker, starring John Cena. It seems that both Jenna Fischer and James Gunn are both very happy in their new relationships, and there is no bad blood between the ex-couple.

It may seem bizarre to think about now that they have been separated for so long and have been successful without one another, but there was once a point in time when James Gunn and Jenna Fischer were married. Of course, during that time, Fischer was a growing star, while James Gunn had yet to turn into a major director.
According to Cleveland.com, the pair were actually introduced via James’ brother, Sean. For the unfamiliar, Sean Gunn played Kirk on Gilmore Girls for years, and eventually, he would become the character Kraglin in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.
The connection that Fischer and Sean Gunn have stems from them knowing one another growing up. According to Cleveland.com, the pair had actually met years before either broke out in the business at an acting class that was put on by Fischer’s mother. Little did Jenna know at the time that she would be meeting someone who would become her brother-in-law one day.
Truman Index shows that it was while working on a showcase together that Sean would introduce Jenna and James. From there, things would blossom between the two, eventually leading into a marriage that lasted for 7 years. Fisher would tell the outlet, “By doing that small part, my manager discovered me. It was also at that same showcase that [I met Sean's brother]. By doing that one showcase, I ended up with a manager and a husband.”

Even though they had a cool story and clearly had something great going for them, the duo would eventually call it quits after six years together. Divorce is never an easy thing for a person to go through, but the pair were able to keep moving forward in their careers after splitting up.
The pair would utilize a joint statement when publicly announcing that they were parting ways. They told Today, “We have chosen to separate. We are sorry for any pain this causes family and friends. The enthusiasm we have expressed for each other’s lives, spirits, and careers is real — we have been each other’s cheerleader and friend during the past six years and continue to be so now and in the future.”
Fischer was still on The Office when this took place, while Gunn had been making headway as a writer. In fact, the year before they split, Gunn wound up directing the film Slither, which was instrumental in audiences getting to know him better as a filmmaker.

In a post, he would say, “I never quite understood how two people can love each other deeply but, when they break up, they grow suddenly hateful and cruel. Just because a relationship doesn't work, doesn't mean the other person is bad. I'm proud of the good relationships I have with most of my exes, but especially Jenna. She's a great person, a true and wonderful friend, and she'll always make me laugh.”
Even Fischer has been public about the fact that she and James remain friends after all this time. She has been a vocal supporter of his, which is something that the fans truly love to see.
