For the ninth and tenth season of Friends, Jennifer Aniston and her co-stars were able to get their salaries raised to a whopping $1 million per episode, which at the time made the cast of the former NBC sitcom the highest-paid actors on TV.

But those numbers apparently come nowhere near the enormous sum of money Aniston is reportedly earning from her Apple TV+ show, The Morning Show, starring her longtime pal Reese Witherspoon.

Its first series, which consisted of 10 episodes, clearly had an enormous budget behind its products since Aniston and Witherspoon were both paid an eye-watering $2 million each per episode. This meant that for just one season, they both walked away with $20 million richer.

How Much Money Is Jennifer Aniston Making On ‘The Morning Show’?

In short, Jennifer Aniston takes home $2 million per episode, which is only matched by one actress in Hollywood and that’s Witherspoon, who felt the need to defend Apple’s decision to pay them the lucrative amount after receiving criticism for their high salaries.

"There seemed to be a resentment, as if we weren't worth it or it was bothersome, and I thought, Why is that bothersome?” The Legally Blonde star told The Hollywood Reporter.

”I guarantee these companies are real smart, and if they agree to pay us, they're doing it for a reason," she went on to argue. "They probably had a lot of lawyers and a lot of business people decide on that number because they knew that they were going to make more than that back. Does it bother people when Kobe Bryant or LeBron James make their contract?”

Considering how athletes are no strangers to signing contracts worth $90 million, is it all that shocking for a woman to earn $20 million from a television series, particularly if the streaming network that’s paying the amount clearly has the money to offer it to them?

It should also be noted that both Witherspoon and Aniston are also executive producers on the show, and from what’s been gathered, their fees for that role are included in the $2 million salary, so technically they are getting paid for holding two positions on the show.

Considering that Aniston is one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, Apple had to come with an impressive number to convince her in signing to sign on for the show, and considering how The Morning Show has already been renewed for a second series, it seems executives are happy with how the sitcom has performed so far.

It’s unknown whether Aniston, who earns a reported $8 million per movie, has renegotiated her contract for a higher amount, but it’s already been confirmed that she will reprise her role as Alex Levy when filming is set to commence in 2021.

Speaking on what fans could expect from Season 2, Witherspoon revealed at a TCA tour panel in January: “I feel like at the end of this ten episodes, there’s a whole new world order. It’s chaos.

“No one knows who is in charge and what leadership means at this point. I think that’s what we’re exploring in the culture right now as it goes topsy turvy, what is the new normal? I’m excited that we’ve got a lot more to explore.”

Meanwhile, in an interview with Variety - aside from the huge paycheck she received from Apple - Aniston told the publication what ended up convincing her to turn her attention from movies to television.

“It wasn’t until the last couple of years when these streaming services were just sort of exploding with this amount of quality that I actually started to think, ‘Wow, that’s better than what I just did.’

"And then you’re seeing what’s available out there and it’s just diminishing and diminishing in terms of, it’s big Marvel movies. Or things that I’m not just asked to do or really that interested in living in a green screen.”

The most that Aniston is said to have earned for a motion picture is $10 million for her role in 2011’s Just Go With It, which is still an impressive number, but considering how she bagged double the amount for one season of The Morning Show, it seemed to be a no-brainer for the actress to get on board with the streaming giants like Apple.

The 51-year-old will undoubtedly earn another $20 million once filming wraps for Season 2, and while a third series has yet to be ordered by Apple, Aniston could very well retire from the movie business altogether and simply rely on the money she makes from The Morning Show considering how profitable the sitcom has been for her so far.
