Back in the '80s, Jennifer Connelly wasn't yet a household name. To be fair, she may not entirely be now; she purposely keeps a low profile with her husband Paul Bettany. Still, Connelly has a long and lucrative resume of acting jobs to her credit.

But before she became the lead actress in fans' favorite films, Connelly had to start somewhere. And apparently, that somewhere was recording songs in Japanese, even though she is definitely not fluent in the language.

As she explained during an interview on 'The Graham Norton Show,' her career actually began overseas. Jennifer started out by modeling in Japan, and one of her jobs was for Panasonic, a tech company that had a particular jingle they wanted her to record.

Jennifer was around 14 or 15 at the time, she recalled, but when Graham brought up the past gig, it jingled some bells for her. In fact, she explained, not only did she record the jingle, but there was also a song she completed that was 'somehow related' to the advertisement, said the actress.

The commercial didn't air the entire song, but the tune was released separately and became very popular in Japan. As Graham explained, it became a number one hit in Japan.

Still, the then-teen didn't speak Japanese, so she said what they wanted her to say, learned her lyrics and recorded them, then went home and apparently forgot all about it. When Graham showed her the clip, Jennifer was shocked and a bit miffed by it.

To this day, Connelly explained, she doesn't remember what the lyrics meant, nor what the video itself was meant to be saying. The ad was for a headset and stereo, but no one on set during her interview could make sense of it.

As fans giggled on Reddit afterward, Jennifer's vibe on 'The Graham Norton Show' was kind of "Yeah, I was famous on two continents when I was fourteen, but I forgot." What a way to start a career! But it has paid off in other ways, beyond global fame, of course.

As Vogue reported back in 2012, Jennifer had been offered a global collab with the skincare brand Shiseido, which is based in Japan. The reason why they reached out was that she had previously worked on a makeup campaign for the Japanese brand, clearly with success.

So while her advertising jingles may not have led anywhere big, Connelly's willingness to step out of her comfort zone as a teen has paid off in big ways today. She still has the same 'do it all vibe,' though, as evidenced by her recent turn in 'Snowpiercer.'

But who knows, maybe another hit Japanese single will come next.
