Nicholas Hoult continues to thrive following his work in X-Men. He developed great chemistry with others, including Anya Taylor-Joy.

However, during his rise to fame, he made the headlines for his relationship alongside Jennifer Lawrence. The two met on the set of X-Men, however, the opposite would hold true years later after they reunited on the film, but this time, under different circumstances.

Playing the roles of Mystique and Beast, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult met on the set of X-Men: First Class. The film was a major hit and a boost for both their careers, bringing in $353 million at the box office, while receiving stellar reviews.

Just a couple of years later, Lawrence's career completely changed, taking home an Oscar for her work in Silver Linings Playbook. Just a year later, her relationship with Hoult came to an end.

Some might pin that on Lawrence's newfound fame at the time, however, Hoult rejected this theory.

"The privacy thing obviously changes but the rest pretty much stays the same," he said. "It's like that thing whereby you don't believe your own hype. Enjoy the good times, but don't get swept away with it. I think that's something she's capable of doing, and that's what makes her special, and I am just kind of a bystander in many ways," Hoult stated at the time.

Despite the breakup, it seems as though the two were able to keep things on amicable terms, especially given the fact that they had to work together.

They would appear together once again in the film Dark Phoenix. This time around, the X-Men film was less off a hit at the box office, making $252 million. Reviews also weren't as kind, generally mixed.

The film was also a completely different experience for Hoult and Lawrence. However, despite the breakup, Hoult made mention that the atmosphere was still a positive one.

"It’s pretty similar to Skins, we’re a big family, we’ve been doing those movies since we were 20 years old. As much as the Skins crowd grew up together, the X-Men crowd really grew up together."

He continues, "It’s been a good eight, nine years making those movies. We’ve all got to get along, we’ve all got to have fun. The really beautiful thing about this last film is that [writer and director] Kim Berger has given me somewhere nice and new to experiment and go with the character. Which is cool."

It seems as though things were nothing but amicable and according to J-Law's side of things, this should not come as a surprise, given that she usually maintains a good relationship with ex-boyfriends.

Despite the breakup, it remained friendly between Lawrence and Hoult, with the actress even attending the premiere of his film, The Favourite.

Lawrence would reveal that she has a history of keeping a good connection with partners from the past.

“For the most part, yeah, I have a theory: I think it’s because I’m blunt. I don’t think that you can have any sort of bad relationship with anybody if you’re just blunt."

Lawrence continued with People, “Everybody always knows how you feel at all times and there’s no lying, it’s just honesty. Everybody’s a good guy to each other. All my boyfriends have been wonderful."

She further commented on Hoult in particular, praising her ex. “Nick [Hoult] was a great boyfriend.”

Both have moved on these days, with Hoult finding love again alongside model Bryana Holly. Jennifer Lawrence got hitched in 2019 to current partner, Cooke Maroney.
