Earlier this month, Jim Carrey released his new memoir, titled Memoirs and Misinformation.

Jim Carrey, along with co-author Dana Vachon, writes a semi-autobiographical novel that follows a movie star named Jim Carrey. He describes it as a “deconstruction of persona.”

This past Tuesday, Carrey appeared on Good Morning America to promote the memoir, delving into the effect Hollywood can have on a celebrity’s esteem.

“It is all allegory,” said Carrey. “The Jim Carrey in the book is not just representative of me. It also represents the false beliefs people have about fame. The false beliefs people have about celebrity and tyranny, which are really not that far away from each other.”

Numerous celebrities, such as Tom Hanks, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tom Cruise, Nick Cage, and more, are included in the book. In the six-minute clip, he jokingly described the feeling readers will experience as a “comet.”

In the interview, George Stephanopoulos points out that Kanye West appears in the book. He proceeds to ask Carrey about his personal thoughts on West running for president.

Carrey goes on to say, “He’s a superhuman artist and an alien adversary to the human race. So I think the presidency would be a huge step down for him.”

On July 4, celebrity and artist Kanye West made the announcement that he would be running for president in the 2020 election on Twitter. Even though he has missed the deadline to file as an independent candidate, he was able to garner support from celebrities.

Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, tweeted his support for the hip-hop artist and fashion mogul. His wife, Kim Kardashian also tweeted her support with an American flag emoji.

Since making the announcement, West hasn’t taken any further steps toward entering the presidential race.

After his commentary on West, Carrey continued to explain how the story detailed in the book has some truth to it even though it is completely fiction.

“It really does describe something very important to me. The idea that there is something beyond this invention we make of ourselves. Social media begs you to push their subscriber button,” he said. “Everybody is looking for their special place, their sense of relevancy. But not just normal relevance, a relevance that lasts beyond the grave.”

Jim Carrey’s memoir Memoirs and Misinformation is currently available for purchase on Amazon, Apple Books, and at Barnes & Noble. The book is also available to listen to on Audible and Google Play Books.
