Jim Carrey's personal life has always been a bit of a mystery. He was married twice prior, his first marriage came alongside Melissa Womer, and the two had a daughter together, Jane Erin Carrey, who was born in September of 1987.

Despite the fact that Jim and Melissa got a divorce in 1995, they managed to stay close and even work together in the later years.

Ironically, the year they got the divorce, Jim worked on 'Dumb And Dumber', the same film his daughter would get a credit for years later when the sequel came out.

Jim became filthy rich following the film, who can forget the chilling story of Jim visualizing a $10 million cheque when he was broke and seven years later, he would receive that exact pay for the iconic film.

He made the sequel for the fans, as he was pestered throughout his career to make a follow-up.

However, it also worked out for his daughter, who was able to showcase her talents in a part lots of fans likely didn't know about.

We'll take a look at her role in the film, along with their relationship. In addition, we'll feature another project she worked on in the past on reality TV.

The Two Have A Close Relationship

It should not come as much of a surprise, but Jim and Jane have quite a relationship together. Jane recalls her dad always being there, even when times weren't the greatest and she faced rejection.

"I talked to my dad and he was kind of comforting," she reasoned. "He said 'I've been said no to a bunch of times' and it worked out for him, so hopefully I have a shot."

The two were also able to strengthen their bond back in 2010 when Jim became a grandfather for the first time. Much to his delight, Jane gave birth to a boy, Jackson Riley Santana. Jim was extremely delighted, "I’m excited about it because I never really got along with girls growing up,” Carrey said last year. “I was a little afraid that if it was a girl that she would not like me, you know? So I’m very happy about the boy.”

It was a great moment for the two, though professionally, like her dad, Jane has gone through some bumps along the way.

One of them took place on a major reality TV show, the gig could've been her breakout had she succeeded.

She Appeared In A Major Reality Show

Yup, like her dad, she has experience on the small screen. However, she ventured off into something Jim isn't all that familiar with, the competitive world of reality TV. Jane was a part of 'American Idol' back in 2012.

She got off to a promising start in the audition room, though things came to an abrupt end during Hollywood week.

Jane recalls it wasn't her best work and that the nerves got the best of her, "I freaked out when I was there so I was really really shaky," she said of her performance. "I know I can do way better than that so I'm really disappointed."

It wasn't the end of the road and in fact, she got a major gig to sing in an iconic film, one that her father starred in.

Song Credits For 'Dumb And Dumber To'

'Dumb and Dumber To' had an immense cast, especially behind the scenes.

It was evident, everyone wanted to help out. Jim admitted, nobody wanted to miss out, and fans wouldn't leave him alone till he made the movie.

"Everybody wanted to be a part of this. That’s a great thing about it. Dumb And Dumber has become something that’s part of the fabric of our culture."

"People literally wouldn’t ever leave me alone about it and that’s why I did the sequel. People hounded me until I decided to do it. It’s really wonderful, though, and the first time we saw the characters coming off the bus in the movie, in all the old clothes, I felt a warm feeling. It was like seeing family that I hadn’t seen in a long while."

Turns out that Jim's daughter would also benefit from the sequel. She got a credit on the film for two songs, 'Breathing Without You' along with 'Sticky Situation'.

Given her recent work, it looks like she might be making the jump to acting, taking on a minor cameo in the TV series, 'Kidding'.
