Sure, interviews can take bizarre twists, like we saw with Jimmy Kimmel and Joaquin Phoenix, along with many other examples. However, on the flip side, we've also seen emotional moments take place. Keanu Reeves was asked by Stephen Colbert what happens when we die. Keanu said, "the ones that love us will miss us," ending the interview on an emotional note.

Jimmy Fallon's most emotional time on the Tonight Show took place after the passing of his mother. The host took off the week and introduced the episode with an emotional speech towards his mother. We'll take a look back at the emotional moment, and how Taylor Swift factored in. Fans were holding back tears during her performance, and it proved to be one to remember.

Back in 2017, it was a tough moment for Jimmy Fallon as his mother had passed away at the age of 68. Fallon took a week off the Tonight Show, and returned by giving the fans an update on what had happened.

“It’s good to be back, guys,” Fallon began. “As some of you know my mother, Gloria, passed away recently. I cancelled our shows last week to be with my family and make arrangements. She was the best audience, she was the one I was always trying to make laugh, and she was such a fan of the show and everything I did.”

Fallon then told the emotional story of his final moments alongside his mother Gloria, and the reason he squeezed her hand.

“When we were little, my mom would walk us to this store, me and my sister, and she would squeeze my hand three times and say, ‘I love you,’ and I would squeeze back, ‘I love you, too.’”

“And … last week I was in the hospital and I grabbed her and squeezed I love you. I just knew we were in trouble, you know? I feel so grateful to be able to do this every single night and I’m very appreciative of all the support from all of you that my family received over the past week.”

According to Tonight Show producer Mike DiCenzo, Taylor Swift was a last minute add-on to Fallon's return episode. Swift was in town for SNL, and those behind the scenes took a chance at getting her on the show.

DiCenzo revealed, "She was not scheduled to do our show today. But we wanted something special for this first show back, so we asked her on a complete whim, since she had been in town doing SNL. She said yes with zero hesitation,” DiCenzo wrote.

“She sang ‘New Year’s Day.’ No one had heard it. Suddenly she sings the line, ‘Squeeze my hand 3 times in the back of the taxi.’ I nearly gasped. Tears. I think everyone in the audience started sobbing. I could see Jimmy silhouetted at his desk dabbing his eyes with a tissue. We all lost it. It was a beautiful coincidence in a beautiful performance. ‘Hold on to your memories, they will hold on to you,’ Taylor sang.”

This particular add-on to the song had Fallon holding back tears, “You squeeze my hand three times in the back of the taxi / I can tell that it’s gonna be a long road / I’ll be there if you’re the toast of the town, babe / Or if you strike out and you’re crawling home.”

The show's producer confirmed that Fallon's hug with Swift was as genuine as it gets. “That hug between Jimmy and Taylor after the song was 100% real emotion. Whatever you think of Taylor, she did something beautiful for Jimmy and our show today, and we’re forever grateful.”

The fans agreed, as the moment has a near 10 million views on YouTube, with the number constantly going up year after year.

One fan writes, "I absolutely love how Tay never breaks the hug first. She herself has said that she does that because she doesn't know how long the other person needs that hug."

Another fan gave context to the situation, "If anyone was wondering why Jimmy was crying after that song it’s because the line Taylor says “squeeze my hand three times in the backseat” is really hard for Jimmy because his mom passed away the week before and he says that she used to squeeze his hand three times before school meaning “I love you."

An outstanding moment and one Jimmy Fallon won't ever forget.
