During an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Joaquin Phoenix seemed uncomfortable when the host played a clip the actor did not seem to want shared with the public. The clip shows Phoenix getting angry with a cinematographer while in character for the film he won an Oscar for, Joker. Sometimes celebrities say controversial or scandalous remarks and some are surprisingly funny. Others end up having painfully awkward interviews.

This could be due to how the celebrity is acting, the questions being asked, or numerous other reasons. Sometimes interviewers say something awkward or ask a question that might be over the line or might be too personal for a celebrity.

According to thelist.com, When Jimmy Kimmel was interviewing Joaquin Phoenix on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the host seemed to surprise the actor with some footage he decided to reveal for the audience. The clip appeared to show Phoenix berating cinematographer Lawrence "Larry" Sher for disturbing his focus.

After the clip was played, Phoenix seemed visibly tense and uncomfortable, clearly embarrassed by what he had seen. After the footage was shown the actor said, "It's just so embarrassing. That was supposed to be private. I'm sorry about that."

The Gladiator actor also added, "Sometimes movies get intense 'cause you're a lot of people in a small space and you're trying to find something, so it can feel intense. But, um, that was supposed to be private. I'm a little embarrassed and I'm sorry about that.

He continued, seeming to apologize to everyone watching, "Sorry you guys had to see that". According to the article, "Phoenix continued by saying his publicist would issue a formal statement the following day."

The uncomfortable Phoenix seemed ready to discuss something else, commenting, "Can we move on?"

Now that so many have access to camera phones and recording devices, several celebrities have been recorded behind the scenes or in private, and some of their behavior and comments can be shocking at the very least.

While on the set filming Joker, Joaquin Phoenix himself was filmed yelling at cinematographer Lawrence "Larry" Sher. According to Entertainment Weekly, it seems Sher had been distracting the Walk The Line actor.

Phoenix appears in his character's famous look from the film Joker during the footage as he yells at cinematographer Larry Sher for his "constant whispering". "The constant whispering, just shut the [bleep] up, dude. I'm trying to find something real."

It doesn't end there though. He is also heard elsewhere during the footage, saying, "I know you started the [bleep] Cher thing, Larry. [Bleep] making fun of me. Like I'm a [bleep] diva. It's not even an insult. Cher, really? Singer, actor, dancer, fashion icon - how's that a [bleep] insult?"

After Jimmy Kimmel showed the footage, Phoenix seemed to be genuinely uncomfortable about what had been shown. He stated, "This is so embarrassing."

The Signs actor continued, saying that he needed to "offer a public apology to Larry". Phoenix also let everyone watching know his publicist would make a statement about the clip.

However, a few celebrities have either claimed or been accused of staging their own shocking footage for multiple reasons. Supposedly, the footage of Joaquin Phoenix yelling at cinematographer Larry Sher, which Jimmy Kimmel showed on Jimmy Kimmel Live, was staged.

According to Entertainment Weekly, after the interview came out, Joaquin Phoenix's publicist told the public the footage had been staged. "Phoenix's publicist told EW the reel 'was a joke outtake."

Lawrence Sher, the cinematographer Phoenix berates in the clip, told Business Insider the truth behind the footage. "It was a bit. Joaquin is actually a super playful guy and loose.

"Sher said Phoenix wanted to pull a prank on (director Todd) Phillips and 'get into a fight.'" According to Sher, the actor asked for an extra take of a certain scene. During the scene, Phoenix is wearing character's look towards the end of the film. As a result, no one noticed the prank.

"He's such a good actor that nobody even got it on set. He played it too straight." Sher did state he didn't know the scene would be played on Jimmy Kimmel Live, saying, "My son asked if it would hurt my reputation."
