John Boyega has revealed who he ships in the Star Wars universe and it probably comes as no surprise.
For the uninitiated, “shipping,” as defined by Urban Dictionary, is “the act of one wanting/supporting two individuals involved in a romantic relationship.” Last weekend at AwesomeCon in Washington DC, Finn actor John Boyega revealed who he would prefer to see shacked up.
"Personally, I ship Finn and Rey," Boyega told moderator Ash Crossan of Entertainment Tonight. But he also didn’t want to limit Finn’s options when it comes to coupling up.
"Rose wants me, Rey wants me, Poe wants me,” he added.
Finn’s likelihood to make it with Rey (Daisy Ridley) seems to be pretty slim. After spending the entirety of Episode VII joined at the hip, it seemed like there was absolutely no chemistry between the two main characters. Then, in Episode VIII, Finn and Rey were separated for most of the movie with Finn seeming to get closer to Rose (Kelly Marie Tran), while Rey seemed to have a thing for First Order bad-boy Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).
But maybe things will change. When asked by a fan for spoilers on the upcoming Episode IX, Boyega admitted he hadn’t yet even read the script but was informed by co-star Daisy Ridley that she and Boyega would be sharing a lot more screen time.
"I haven’t read a script for Episode IX," Boyega said. “But Daisy did shoot me a text saying, 'Oh my gosh, I just heard from J.J., and we’re back together.' That’s what I’m really excited about: Finn and Rey back together again."
As for what else we can expect, Boyega could only offer his gut feelings: expect things to get heavy. "I think it’s going to be an all-out war in this final chapter, so we need to be prepared...."
It might just be the actor in him speaking, but Boyega also commented on how he’d like to see Finn’s background explored a little more in-depth for Episode IX. "One question I’ve always had as an actor being involved in Star Wars is why Finn decided to defect in the first place. I still don’t understand. I would love to know more, to go into his life as a Stormtrooper."
The next installment of Star Wars comes out December 20, 2019.
