In an attempt to help fans stay positive amid the rapidly accelerating Coronavirus crisis, Gal Gadot posted a video on Instagram last week which featured a wide variety of celebrities covering John Lennon's Imagine.

The response to Gal's video wasn't entirely positive, as many viewers criticized the celebrities for trying to seem relatable and failing to realize that regular people don't have mansions to enjoy during their social distancing. John Mayer and Ryan Reynolds have now both joined in on poking fun at the Wonder Woman actress' controversial music video, with Mayer saying he's "not sorry" he didn't participate.

Gal Gadot's Imagine Video Failed To Accomplish Its Goal

When Gal Gadot posted the celebrity-filled "Imagine" cover on Instagram on March 18, she hoped it'd remind people that "it doesn't matter who you are, where you're from. We're all in this together."

The list of celebrity cameos in the music video included Kristen Wiig, Jimmy Fallon, Natalie Portman, Will Ferrell, Mark Ruffalo and a variety of others, as each sang a line or two from John Lennon's iconic song while in their own self-quarantines.

People immediately criticized Gadot for saying that the Coronavirus spread is "affecting everyone" and failing to note that she and the other celebrities featured in the video are isolating themselves within mansions filled with a variety of things to keep them entertained.

John Mayer Was Asked To Participate, But Wasn't In The Video

John Mayer took to Instagram on Sunday to reveal why he wasn't in Gadot's star-studded Imagine cover.

He admitted that “they actually asked me to be a part of this," but didn't appear in the video because he misunderstood the request and thought he was supposed to sing Ariana Grande's Imagine from her 2019 album Sweetener. After watching Gadot's video and seeing the response to it, however, he's happy he didn't take part in it.

“Am I sorry? Not even close. But am I not sorry? Well now that’s a whole different question with a different answer – you’re damn right I’m not sorry.”

Ryan Reynolds Subtly Made Fun Of The Video And His Fellow Celebs

Ryan Reynolds added his name to the expanding list of celebrities making PSAs about the virus on Monday, after asking his Twitter followers to socially distance and take needed precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

However, he then made fun of Gadot's video and his fellow celebrities by sarcastically claiming that "it's the celebrities we count on most" during times of crisis.

"They're the ones that are going to get us through this. Right after health care workers, of course. First responders, people who work in essential services and ping pong players. Mannequins, they're great. Childhood imaginary friends, sure. Like 400 other types of people."
