It’s been almost two years since the release of John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum starring Keanu Reeves and Halle Berry, and Lionsgate has already confirmed that they’re working on a fourth and fifth installment, which isn’t that much of a shocker considering how much these movies have made at the box office.

The latest action-packed flick made an impressive $326 million worldwide, and while a follow-up is expected to enter cinemas in May 2022, fans are already curious to know what will happen next in the popular franchise — particularly since two movies are being worked on back-to-back for 2022 and 2023.

So far, the only person attached to the upcoming fourth film is Keanu, who's done a tremendous job playing the legendary hitman, but insiders close to the production team have spilled some details as to what fans can expect next year. Spoilers ahead!

What Will Happen In ‘John Wick 4’?

According to Men’s Journal, it’s likely that a string of actors will be reprising their roles in the forthcoming motion picture, including Lauren Fishburne’s Bowery King, Asia Kate Dillon as the Adjudicator of the High Table, Ian McShane as Winston, and Jason Mantzoukas as Tick Tock Man.

While Halle played a pivotal role in the third installment as Sofia, while it hasn’t been confined whether she’s onboard for another movie, her involvement in the project hasn’t been ruled out just yet.

In Chapter 3, the Bowery King is targeted by the assassin Zero and seemingly killed for helping John Wick escape in the previous film. Towards the end of the film, however, we uncover that the Bowery King isn’t dead after all — he survived the horrific sword strikes.

After being reunited with a wounded John Wick thanks to the help of the Tick Tock Man, they both plan to seek revenge against the High Table.

In Chapter 4, it would seem as if a full-on war will break out between the High Table against John Wick and the Bowery King. Let’s not forget that the latter has an army of homeless-looking assassins located all over the city, and with John still furious after being shot by his ex-associate Winston, it’s inevitable that he will want to get back at those who brought harm his way.

What’s even better is that Matrix fans will get to see more screen time between Laurence and Keanu, who first worked together on the 1999 blockbuster.

Interestingly enough, Chad and Keanu didn’t plan on working on a fourth installment, convinced that the third movie would have been the last in the franchise — but some convincing from the studio and ideas that they couldn’t implement in previous John Wick films left the pair agreeing to collaborate on at least one more film.

Winston probably took most of us by surprise when he shot John twice and watched as he fell off the roof of the hotel, resulting in Winston attaining control of The Continental by the end of Chapter 3, yet this also came at the cost of his former close ties with John — for now.

While Winston is sure to be on John’s bad side at the start of Chapter 4, it’s being suggested that the two could potentially reunite somewhere down the line and squash their differences, although, being shot and almost dying from two gunshot wounds isn’t exactly something one can forgive a friend over.

Still, John may eventually need Winston’s help to fight the High Table.

In an interview with Collider back in April 2020, Chad gushed: "Then we just kinda met each other when we were doing the publicity tour and I think we were in Japan, and Keanu goes, 'I think I got one more left in me,' and we had one idea we didn't use which we really loved and we have to cut it out of number three [Parabellum], just didn't have the space for it.

“So we're like, 'Okay, we'll do a fourth. That's gonna be awesome. We'll make a plan.' The studios [...] went, 'We totally get what you're trying to do.' We submitted an idea or thematic [plan] and it was really big. So, we're talking about doing a little bit more than a [John Wick 4], or something like that, and trying to develop that. We'll see how that goes.”

Chad concluded by saying that the next installment is going to be incredibly hard to shoot based on all of the creative concepts he and his team came up with for their treatment plan, but if all goes well, it could undoubtedly be the best movie he’s directed to date.

“I think I have a lot of really cool ideas for the next one that I think are different and shocking and fun and unique. How to do them, I have no fu****’ idea right now. I'm still figuring it out.”
