Johnny Depp has made an absolute fortune throughout his career with a slew of hits and even a few flops. Sure, he's spent quite a bit of his earnings in reportedly extravagant ways, but he's still a massive success. Although, Johnny has been arguing that his career and (more importantly) his personal life have taken a gut punch due to the allegations leveled at him by his ex, Amber Heard. Johnny has disputed all of these "heinous" allegations. And, at the time of this writing, he is fighting for his reputation in court.

But Johnny's fight to clear his name hasn't always been the most respectful. Both his side and Amber's side have thrown some pretty brutal punches, many of which have been called out by the press. However, that's not to say that the whole thing hasn't been entertaining in a somewhat depressing way. In fact, whether he means to or not, Johnny Depp has found ways of making this terribly trying time funny. And he's done so by playfully challenging Amber Heard's lawyer, Ben Rottenborn, with some savage comebacks in front of the judge, jury, and the world.

7 Johnny Depp Was Waiting To Be Interrupted By Ben Rottenborn

"Objection, your honor, hearsay" has been a legal term thrown around a lot during the Johnny Depp/Amber Head defamation trial. Ben Rottenborn has continuously interrupted Johnny while he's been up testifying. His justification was that Johnny was repeating information from people not present and therefore the facts cannot be confirmed or denied. On most occasions, the judge has sided with either legal team citing this objection.

But Johnny was noticeably confused and annoyed when Mr. Rottenborn interrupted him. So, he decided to take a different approach. On one of the days, Johnny decided to take skillfully timed pauses, allowing Mr. Rottenborn the chance to interrupt. Johnny's savage facial expressions when the lawyer took the opportunity have been plastered all over the internet. But it's the surprised look on Johnny's face when Mr. Rottenborn didn't object that's the funniest.

6 Johnny Called Out The Lawyer's Objections

When Mr. Ben Rottenborn continuously called out Johnny's lawyer for asking questions he didn't like, she decided to move on.

"Let me ask you a different question," Johnny's lawyer said to him.

"Yes, let's let him object to another one," Johnny smiled, earning laughs from the gallery.

5 Johnny Got Mr. Rottenborn To Repeat An Intimate Innuendo

Johnny Depp's graphic texts have been on display, particularly during cross-examination. There's no doubt he's receiving criticism for them as some of the things he wrote about and to Amber are shocking and inappropriate. Even still, Johnny found a way to skewer Mr. Rottenborn while he read them out.

"Did I read that correctly?" has been a question Mr. Rottenborn has asked Johnny repeatedly whenever he's read anything he's allegedly written. It's been an effective tactic to further punctuate some of the disturbing texts being exchanged or to trip Johnny up. It's Mr. Rottenborn's job, after all. But clearly, Johnny wanted to have fun with it.

While reading a text chain between Johnny and Amber, Mr. Rottenborn read a particularly sexual line twice, attempting to focus on the possible violent angle. Instead, he just sounded as though he was reading something dirty. So, Johnny playfully asked him to read it aloud a third time, immediately causing the gallery to laugh.

4 Ben Rottenborn's "Strange" Paul Bettany Question

Johnny Depp's relationship with Paul Bettany has come up in the recent defamation trial, but Johnny wasn't afraid to call out an oddly worded question right to Mr. Rottenborn's face.

"Paul Bettany is a good friend that you've done drugs with, right?" Mr. Rottenborn asked swiftly, interrupting Johnny.

"...That's a strange question," Johnny responded.

3 Johnny Depp Schooled Ben Rottenborn On Seratonin And Dopamine

"I won't give you anything to argue with me yet," Mr. Rottenborn said, getting into a question.

"...'Yet'..." Johnny laughed. "Sorry."

This was followed by Mr. Rottenborn asking Johnny about whether or not he testified to ordering certain drugs. But these drugs, according to Johnny, are not the substances someone (like him) who was coming off an opioid addiction would order. He then went on to explain dopamine and serotonin to the lawyer. When Mr. Rottenborn interrupted, Johnny's response was, "I'm trying to school you."

2 Johnny's Best One-Liners From The Trial

Johnny Depp found some pretty savage ways of roasting Amber Heard's lawyer, Ben Rottenborn with just one line. While this may not go over well with the jury, it did send the internet buzzing.

This includes Mr. Rottenborn stipulating that Johnny was drinking "pretty heavily" on one occasion. Johnny's response was, "Were you there?"

In another moment, Mr. Rottenborn asked to pull up a specific document to which Johnny sarcastically responded, "Yes, I'd like to see why I lied to."

Then there was when Mr. Rottenborn asked Johnny if he liked to "drink whiskey in the mornings"...

"It's happy hour anytime?" Johnny smiled.

"You can't say you carried cocaine in that box?" Mr. Rottenborn asked on another occasion.

"No, but it looks like it could fit some cocaine," Johnny said, causing the room to laugh.

1 "Nothing's Simple In This Case"

If there's one thing that's certain, it's that this contentious case is utterly complicated. Neither party comes off all that well, although one may be less guilty than the other. That's up to the jury to decide. But Johnny was very right, and utterly savage when he confronted Mr. Rottenborn's simplification of a question.

"It's a simple yes or no," Mr. Rottenborn said referring to his question.

"You'd like it to be, sir," Depp retorts, "Nothing's simple in this case."
