Jonah Hill is an excellent actor, but he hasn't always wanted to be in the spotlight. Men's Health once quoted the actor as saying that when he was younger, he didn't like himself much.

But part of it was because he wanted to fit in with more athletic kids, and he always felt like a bit of an outcast. Hill said he was lonely and "maybe not understanding my own worth." That was before he met Seth Rogen and the rest of his pals of course.

So when Jonah debuted a trimmer physique on the red carpet in 2011, fans were happy for him. The transformation was more for a role than for his own personal goals, though, as Jonah would later admit.

But what film got him started on a path toward better health and a 40-pound weight loss success story?

According to IMDb, it was '21 Jump Street' that Jonah got into shape for. Trivia says that he and Channing Tatum both had to do "several physically demanding stunts," so they naturally hit the gym a ton.

According to Men's Health, Jonah's biggest transformation -- he has lost and regained weight a few times over the years -- happened with 'Moneyball.' The movie earned Jonah an Oscar, but it was also one of the first times he was trimmer on screen.

Men's Health quoted Jonah as saying that the film marked a move to being "a responsible adult" for him. No more partying like a college frat boy and living off pizza, he noted.

At the time, Hill explained that he saw a nutritionist, changed his diet, and started running. Around that time, he dropped about 40 pounds.

But then, he gained the weight back for a specific role. Just like any other actor in Hollywood, Jonah changed his body to fit the role he wanted. The only difference is that for some reason, journalists and fans are obsessed with tracking Jonah's changing physique in ways that they may not poke and prod other celebs.

For one thing, in 2016, when Jonah gained some weight for 'War Dogs,' he explained in an interview that he turned to the gym to lose that weight when the film wrapped. With some advice from Channing Tatum and a good trainer, Hill headed back to the gym and changed his body once again.

And while some journalists are prickly about the fact that Jonah doesn't want to share his full workout routine every time he sits down to chat about his career, it's understandable.

Jonah is probably tired of being asked about his "transformation." Maybe the first time it was an epic transformation, but now? It's just another actor doing his job by adding or losing weight for his career.

Instead of just being known as 'the lowest paid actor' in Hollywood, Jonah's making a name for himself -- and he doesn't have to talk about his workout habits to make it happen.
